Our air source heat pumps service in Surrey

Many air source heat pumps can be installed as permitted development in England, without a planning application. Conditions include a maximum outdoor unit size of 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), use for more than cooling alone and a site outside the curtilage of a listed building. We check the rules for your property as part of the survey. The work covers hot water cylinders, air-to-air heat pumps and radiator systems, and common reasons people get in touch are comparing heat pump types and finding a place for the outdoor unit.

The first job on site is protection: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work, and we ask before moving anything. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. It takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker, and we tidy up before we leave.

  1. First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

What you will pay

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. For a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

What’s near Guildford

In Guildford, that means homes and buildings near Surrey Maths School, Sandfield Primary School and Guildford High School and the streets around them. Also close by are Church of St John the Evangelist (under half a mile east), Stoke Park (within half a mile east) and The King's Head pub (less than half a mile south-east). For rail, the closest station is London Road (Guildford) station, about 0.6 miles south-east of the centre. A little further out are Guildford Castle (0.9 miles south) and Guildford House (0.8 miles south). Green spaces nearby include Silent Pool and Pewley Hill.

Where we fit heat pumps in Surrey

Our air source heat pumps work across Surrey takes in places such as Guildford, Woking and Camberley and the smaller places around them. We cover every place we list for Surrey, 395 in all.

We reply to enquiries from Surrey the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7.

Guildford: Guildford Castle lies about 0.9 miles south. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions. For a home near London Road (Guildford) station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better.

What affects the cost of air source heat pumps

Our prices page gives typical ranges, but every job is priced on its own. What we look at:

  • How far the pipework has to run, and where
  • The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
  • The equipment or parts the job needs
  • How many units are involved

Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The system, the access, the pipe routes and the parts involved all play a part.

Before you get in touch

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price a simple job. Useful things to send:

  • The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Your consumer unit or fuse board
  • The make and model of the system, from the label

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Write down what you notice: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

What happens if it’s left?

Getting the sizing wrong causes problems that are hard to fix later. Doing the survey properly from the start avoids that.

Comparing quotes

  • Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
  • If the figure could change on the day
  • Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
  • How VAT is shown, and which rate applies

Common problems we fix in Surrey

Some homes heated by electric heaters or storage heaters consider a heat pump instead. The survey tells you whether it’s practical and what’s involved along with whether any grant could apply.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump
  • A boiler that is getting old
  • Checking eligibility for a heat pump grant
  • Checking whether planning permission is needed

Surrey: your questions answered

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. Each visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.

How quickly will you reply?

You will hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. That isn’t optional: it’s required by law, and we hold it.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

Which brands do you work with?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and tell you why.

Does the grant cover air-to-air heat pumps?

The scheme offers £2,500 for air-to-air, but the conditions are strict. It won’t apply if the system is an add-on next to a boiler, and it must cover the whole heating demand.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
