Air conditioning across GU8: what to expect
Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, with VRF for larger buildings. Which one suits you depends on the space, the building and how much of the unit you want to see, and we explain the options on the survey. Typical jobs include an old system that needs replacing and an office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers, on VRF systems, ceiling cassettes and multi-split systems.
Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. On site, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.
What you’ll pay
Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.
Why choose AirCon Doctor
- Electrical work covered by our NICEIC approval
- Manufacturer’s warranty terms explained on your quote
- A fixed price before any work starts
- A 24/7 emergency line
Ask for a quote
Every quote starts with a look at the job, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.
What’s near Milford
We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around Milford School, Rodborough and The White Lion pub, among other places. You will also find Rodborough Common (0.9 miles south-west), St Hilary's School (1.5 miles north-east) and St John the Evangelist's Church (under half a mile south). The closest station to Milford is Milford (Surrey) station, about 0.8 miles south-east. A little further out are Godalming Museum (1.7 miles north-east) and Milford Hospital (1 mile east). Green spaces nearby include Lower Lake and Frith Hill.
Air conditioning around GU8
In GU8, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.
We are based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, GU8 included. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote.
Milford: Loseley Park (roughly 3.5 miles north-east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. Around St John the Evangelist's Church, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install.
For landlords and property managers
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit is written up, with F-Gas records wherever refrigerant work is involved, so you can show what was done and when.
We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings in GU8 and across Surrey. Larger buildings can be done in stages to keep disruption down.
Why it fails
Many people try a portable unit first. Portables push their warm air out through a hose in the window, so the window can’t close properly and the noisy part of the unit is in the room. A fixed split system puts the compressor outside.
What we are most often called about:
- A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
- A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
What the work involves, system by system
Multi-split systems
With a multi-split, one outdoor unit serves two or more rooms. It saves wall space outside and suits homes where several rooms need cooling, with each room controlled separately.
Pipework and condensate drains
The indoor and outdoor units are joined by insulated refrigerant pipes, a cable and a condensate drain. We agree the route with you before we drill, and keep it as short and neat as the building allows.
When something else is needed
We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
- Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)
FAQs for GU8
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.
Will I need planning permission?
That depends on what’s being fitted and where. Heat pumps on houses in England can be permitted development when they meet set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, so check with the council. Flats, listed buildings and conservation areas have tighter rules. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Every visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
Which type of air conditioning is best?
The right one depends on how many rooms you want to cool, how much space there is outside and how visible you want the indoor units to be. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
In many cases, but permissions come first. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls, so check the lease. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. That is not optional: it’s required by law, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Are you F-Gas certified?
We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.
