How air conditioning works in GU3

Thinking about air conditioning but not sure where to start? Just ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier with photos of the rooms and the outside of the property, and we’ll reply the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. Common call-outs are for old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient and an office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers, across ceiling cassettes, wall-mounted split systems and air-to-air heat pumps.

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then the work itself, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. The middle part takes longest, and that takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

What affects the price in GU3

A single unit or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You will have a fixed price before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Why choose AirCon Doctor

  • Checkatrade member
  • Warranty terms set out brand by brand
  • NICEIC approved electrical contractors
  • A site survey and a fixed-price quote

Getting a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Add the address and what you’d like done, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around Royal Oak pub, Kings College Guildford and Rydes Hill Preparatory School. Nearby too are St Alban's Church (less than half a mile north-east), Wood Street Infant School (within half a mile east) and Broadstreet (under half a mile south-east). The nearest railway station is Wanborough station, about 1.7 miles west. Other landmarks nearby include Guildford Cathedral Treasury (1.8 miles east) and Guildford Castle (2.7 miles south-east). Not far away are Littlefield Common and St Catherine's Hill.

Where we install in GU3

Our air conditioning work across GU3 takes in places such as Guildford, Woking and Stoughton and the smaller places around them. Every place on our GU3 list (20 in all) is covered.

An F-Gas certified company does the refrigerant side, while NICEIC approval covers the electrical work, in GU3 as everywhere else.

Wood Street Village: Living close to St Alban's Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. Wanborough Manor, about 1.9 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

Why deal with it now?

For a home or business in GU3, booking the survey now gives time to plan. The installation takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access, and the date is agreed with you after you’ve accepted the fixed price.

What your quote should include

  • If the figure could change on the day
  • Exactly what the price includes, from supply and fitting to commissioning
  • What records you get at the end
  • Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications

Pricing air conditioning in GU3

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but every job is priced on its own. The quote depends on:

  • What electrical work the job needs
  • The equipment or parts the job needs
  • What we find on the survey or diagnosis
  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed-price quote, phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line, and we will talk you through it.

Asking for a quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is
  • A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on

To help us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, photos of the rooms or units, the make and model of any existing system and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Different systems, different jobs

Pipework and condensate drains

The indoor and outdoor units are joined by insulated refrigerant pipes, a cable and a condensate drain. We agree the route with you before we drill, and keep it as short and neat as the building allows.

Ducted systems

With a ducted system, the indoor unit sits out of sight above the ceiling, with only neat grilles showing in the room. It suits rooms where a visible unit wouldn’t work.

What owners can safely do

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

Your questions about air conditioning in GU3

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

That depends on the lease, the building and where the outdoor unit could go. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.

Does air conditioning work as heating?

In most cases, yes: modern splits are typically heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, 24/7. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will talk you through the next steps.

Which type of air conditioning is best?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.
