New builds, family homes and older streets

Burgess Hill’s housing is mostly family homes. Around the centre and the station there are Victorian and Edwardian streets. Beyond them are interwar and post-war semis, bungalows and estates from the later 20th century, and newer developments continue to add homes on the edges of the town.

New homes are built to tight insulation and airtightness standards. For a typical semi or detached house, a multi-split system serves several rooms from one outdoor unit at the side or rear: typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT for two rooms and £4,500–£8,500 + VAT for three to five. In a bungalow, short pipe runs can keep the install simple. In the older streets, solid brick walls need core drilling, and we route pipework to keep the front of the house clear.

In a flat, the outdoor unit usually needs a balcony, a rear wall or a shared roof, and most leases need the landlord’s consent first. We can supply the specification, noise data and proposed positions for that request.

Most split systems heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. To replace a gas boiler entirely, an air-to-water heat pump is the main option, at £8,000–£16,000 with 0% VAT on homes, before the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. Noise matters on modern estates where houses sit close together. We choose positions away from neighbours’ windows and patios, use anti-vibration mounts as standard and size units so they aren’t working flat out.
