What’s included

An installation price covers the indoor and outdoor units, the refrigerant pipework, cabling and condensate drain, wall brackets or ground mounts, the electrical connection, commissioning, and the F-Gas records for the system. We also show you how to use the controls. The electrical work is certified by us as an NICEIC approved company. Your quote sets out exactly what’s included, the positions of the units and the manufacturer’s warranty that applies.

What changes the price

  • The number and size of rooms. Bigger rooms, more glass and south or west-facing windows need more capacity.
  • The type of system. Wall-mounted units are usually the simplest. Ducted and cassette systems need ceiling or loft space and more labour.
  • Pipe runs and access. Long runs, several floors, solid walls and awkward outdoor positions add time and materials.
  • Electrics. A new circuit is usually needed. An old consumer unit with no spare capacity can add cost.
  • Condensate. Where water can’t drain by gravity, a condensate pump is needed.
  • Brand and model. Premium and quieter models cost more, and some brands suit some jobs better than others.
  • Permissions. Listed buildings, conservation areas and leasehold flats may need drawings, applications or extra care with finishes.

VAT

For homes, HMRC’s Notice 708/6 zero-rates the installation of energy-saving materials, including air source heat pumps that are permanently fixed, from 1 May 2023 to 31 March 2027. After that the rate becomes 5%. HMRC says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, but whether a particular product qualifies depends on the facts of each case, so we confirm the VAT on your quote. Businesses, hotels and other non-residential buildings pay the standard rate. Air-to-water heat pumps for homes are 0% VAT. This is general information, not tax advice.

Heat pump grants

In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump and £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump. The air-to-air grant has conditions: the system must replace your existing fossil-fuel heating, meet the home’s full heating demand and be fitted by an MCS certified installer, and it can’t be an add-on alongside a boiler. There’s one grant per property, and you can’t get one to replace an existing low-carbon system. Until March 2027, an extra £1,500 is available for air source or ground source heat pumps in homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas. As an MCS certified company, we apply for the grant on your behalf. See our heat pump installation page for more.

Warranty

Your system comes with the manufacturer’s warranty. Terms vary by brand and product, and we explain them on your quote.
