Air conditioning installation in Crawley

Crawley is close to home for us. We’re based in East Grinstead, a short drive along the A264, and we work across Crawley’s neighbourhoods, the town centre, Manor Royal and the area around Gatwick. We install, service and repair air conditioning for houses, flats, offices, warehouses, shops and server rooms.

We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We fit leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG and Samsung, and we explain the manufacturer’s warranty for your chosen unit on the quote. We don’t add warranty promises of our own; the manufacturer’s terms are what you get, and we make sure you understand them.

Every job follows four steps. We look at the property on a site survey, or from photos and measurements for straightforward jobs. You get a fixed-price quote. We install, repair or service the system. Then we commission it, record the refrigerant details for your F-Gas records and hand over. A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT; our Crawley installation cost guide breaks down the rest.

If your system has stopped cooling, our repair service covers all makes, with diagnosis from £75 + VAT. For businesses that can’t wait, our 24/7 line handles emergency breakdowns.

On VAT: for homes, HMRC’s Notice 708/6 zero-rates the installation of air source heat pumps until 31 March 2027, and it says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, though each case depends on the facts. We confirm the VAT on your quote. Offices, warehouses and other business premises pay the standard rate. This is general information, not tax advice.

Not sure what you need? Tell us which rooms get too hot, which way they face and roughly how big they are. We’ll suggest a starting point before the survey, so you know what to expect when we arrive.

Neighbourhood homes and newer estates

Crawley grew as a new town, built around neighbourhoods such as Three Bridges, Pound Hill, Tilgate, Furnace Green, Langley Green and Broadfield, each with its own centre. Much of the housing is post-war: terraces, semis and low-rise flats, often with cavity walls and modest gardens. Newer estates on the edges of the town add modern houses and apartment blocks, many with well-insulated walls and big windows that can overheat on sunny afternoons.

For a typical Crawley house, a wall-mounted split in the main bedroom is the most common first step. If two or three rooms need it, a multi-split system lets one outdoor unit serve them all. The outdoor unit usually sits on a back or side wall, on a ground bracket or on the roof of a rear extension. We plan positions so the unit can breathe, can be reached for servicing and doesn’t sit under a neighbour’s window.

Newer homes are well sealed, which is good for heating bills but means heat builds up in summer, especially in upstairs rooms. Some new-build estates have planning conditions or covenants about what can go on the front of a house, so check your purchase paperwork too. Our guide to air conditioning in new builds covers what to look for.

In flats, the lease usually decides what can be fixed outside, and most need the landlord’s consent. We can provide the specification and positions to support that request.

Most split systems heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning, and a unit in heat mode can warm a room quickly in spring and autumn without firing up the boiler. If you want to replace the boiler entirely, our heat pump installation page explains the options.

Because we’re close by, Crawley jobs are easy for us to plan around you. A survey can often be fitted around your working day, and servicing visits in the same area can be grouped together. If you have an older system that’s become noisy, slow to cool or keeps showing a fault code, we can tell you on a visit whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense. Our guide to system lifespan and replacement explains the signs to look for.

A recent job in Crawley

Manor Royal Business District, Crawley (RH10)

Property
A 4,500 sq ft ground floor office suite.
Work carried out
Installation of a Daikin VRV system serving six indoor cassette units across an open-plan office, two meeting rooms and a server room. The server room required a dedicated precision cooling unit with independent temperature monitoring. All cabling and pipework was concealed within the suspended ceiling void. The installation was carried out over a weekend to avoid disruption to the 35-person team.
Outcome
The client reported a measurable improvement in staff comfort and productivity, and the server room has maintained a consistent 18-21°C since installation without a single thermal event.

Planning and conservation areas in Crawley

Planning in the town is handled by Crawley Borough Council, whose planning pages let you check whether you need permission and search past applications. The council has 13 conservation areas, including the High Street, Ifield Village and Worth, listed on its conservation areas page. If your property is in one of them, or is a listed building, the rules are tighter.

For houses elsewhere, an air source heat pump can be permitted development if it meets set limits. The Planning Portal’s heat pump guidance sets them out: an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), not used solely for cooling, not on a pitched roof, and not on a wall above ground floor facing the road. Flats and blocks of flats have tighter limits. A cooling-only air conditioning unit isn’t covered by these rights, so the council needs to be asked.

Commercial units on business estates often have their own landlord rules on roof plant, wall fixings and noise, in the lease or estate regulations. We’re used to providing the drawings, product data and method statements that landlords and facilities managers ask for.

The electrical side is notifiable under Part P when a new circuit is added. As the Planning Portal explains, a registered competent person can self-certify that work. We’re NICEIC approved, so we certify it ourselves and give you the paperwork.

Some business estates and newer housing developments in the town have their own landlord rules or planning conditions, so check your lease or purchase paperwork as well as the council’s rules.

Manor Royal, Gatwick and Crawley businesses

Manor Royal is one of the South East’s major business districts, just south of Gatwick. Its business improvement district describes it as home to over 600 businesses, from offices and laboratories to warehouses and workshops. We install and maintain commercial air conditioning there and across the town: ceiling cassettes for offices, VRF for larger buildings, and dedicated cooling for server rooms and comms rooms. Our warehouse cooling guide covers bigger spaces.

Business systems carry legal duties: leak checks above the F-gas thresholds, refrigerant records and TM44 inspections for systems over 12 kW. A maintenance contract keeps them on track.

Many units on Manor Royal and the town’s other estates are leased, with the landlord or managing agent responsible for the building and the tenant for their own fit-out. Leases often say who looks after the air conditioning, so check yours before a breakdown. We’re happy to work with landlords, tenants and facilities managers, and we give each a clear record of what was done. Where a server room can’t be allowed to overheat, we can design a backup unit into the system. Older R410A systems can still be repaired legally; our guide to the 2027 F-gas phase-down explains what tighter supply means for top-ups.

How it works

  1. Diagnose. We look at the rooms or building on a site survey, or from your photos for simple jobs, and work out what size and type of system it needs.
  2. Quote. You get a fixed-price quote with the make and model of every unit, the pipe runs, electrics and condensate route, and the VAT.
  3. Treat. An F-Gas certified engineer installs, repairs or services the system, with any new circuit done by our NICEIC approved electricians.
  4. Sign off. We commission and leak-test the system, keep the F-Gas records, explain the controls and go through the manufacturer’s warranty terms for your brand.
