What happens if it’s left?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant cannot use F gases with a GWP above 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

No two properties are the same, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.

About our air conditioning in Dorking

Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust makes the same point: an air-to-air heat pump is what many people simply call air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Modern air conditioning heats as well as cools: in heating mode they work as an air-to-air heat pump, which is why many owners use theirs all year.

Houses in a town like Dorking tend to have room for an outdoor unit on a side or rear wall, or on the ground. The position is chosen with the neighbours’ windows in mind, and the pipework is kept short and tidy, inside through a loft or outside in trunking.

Looking after a system is mostly common sense: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • Central heating repairs
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling

If you are not sure, just ring us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

FAQs for Dorking

Is air conditioning in Dorking permitted development?

It depends on the property. Central Dorking is a short walk from the Dorking Conservation Area. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones can’t, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact the planning department at Mole Valley council, usually the authority for Dorking.

Is Dorking in your area for air conditioning?

Yes. Dorking is one of the places we cover. Just phone 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier with a few details.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Which accreditations do you hold?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

Do you protect the property while you work?

Protection goes down first: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards before we leave.

How much is air conditioning for one room?

Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. The price includes supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation and is fixed after a survey or from photos.

Will you need to do electrical work?

In most cases. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.

How it works

If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before work begins, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can usually work room by room or zone by zone. The work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. Three things shape a visit in Dorking: parking, access to the outside of the building and when suits you.

  1. First comes a site survey, or photos and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
  3. Brackets go on, the units are hung and the refrigerant lines, cable and drain are routed between them.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
  • Keep pets out of the rooms we are working in
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

Advice

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Owner care supports servicing; it doesn’t replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

One of our jobs in Dorking

South Street, Dorking (RH4)

Property
A Victorian townhouse converted to a physiotherapy clinic.
Work carried out
Installation of two Panasonic wall-mounted units: one in the main treatment room and one in the reception and waiting area. The Victorian building had solid brick walls and the installation required careful routing of pipework through the original fabric. The outdoor unit was positioned in the service yard to the rear of the property.
Outcome
The clinic owner reported that patient comfort during summer treatments had improved significantly. The heating function was also found to be useful for warming the treatment room quickly on winter mornings before the building’s central heating reached operating temperature.
