Air conditioning repair
Air conditioning faults diagnosed and repaired by F-Gas certified engineers, with the cause explained and a fixed price agreed before the repair goes ahead.
- From £75 + VAT call-out
- Air con running but not cooling
- Water dripping from the indoor unit
What air conditioning repair involves
When air conditioning stops cooling, leaks water or shows an error code, the symptom rarely tells you the cause. A unit blowing warm air might have a blocked filter, a failed sensor, a fault on the circuit board or a refrigerant leak. We diagnose first. The engineer reads any fault codes, checks the electrics, the airflow and the condensate drain, and measures the refrigerant pressures and temperatures. Then we explain what’s wrong and what it will cost to put right, before the repair goes ahead. Diagnosis call-outs start from £75 + VAT. We work on all the main brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi, and on systems fitted by other installers. Where refrigerant is involved we find and fix the leak before recharging, and record it in the F-Gas records. Our guide to air conditioning that isn’t cooling covers the checks you can make first.
We’re based in East Grinstead and cover London and the South East. We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member.

How it works
- Tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code. A photo of the display helps.
- The engineer diagnoses the fault, checking the electrics, airflow, drain and refrigerant circuit.
- We explain the cause and give you a fixed price for the repair before any work goes ahead.
- The repair is carried out, and any refrigerant work is leak tested and recorded.
- The system is run and checked in every mode, and we tell you about anything else we noticed.
Diagnose first, then repair
Guessing is expensive. Topping up refrigerant on a system that has a blocked filter, or replacing a board when the real fault is a sensor, wastes your money and leaves the problem in place. We find the cause, tell you what it is in plain English and give you the price to fix it. If a repair isn’t worth doing on an old system, we say so and explain the options.
Refrigerant leaks done properly
A sealed system shouldn’t lose refrigerant. If it’s low, there is a leak. Simply adding gas means it will leak away again. We locate the leak, repair it, pressure test, evacuate the system and recharge it to the manufacturer’s charge, then record the work in the F-Gas records. Repairs on existing R410A systems remain legal, although R410A is getting harder and dearer to buy as the phase-down continues.
Repair or replace?
Age alone doesn’t decide it. A ten-year-old system with a failed fan motor may be well worth repairing, while a newer one with a failed compressor might not be. We look at the fault, the cost of parts, the refrigerant it uses and how well the system suits the room, then give you an honest view. If replacement makes more sense, we can quote for a new system on the same visit.
Why it’s worth doing now
Small faults rarely stay small. A blocked drain becomes water damage, a slow leak drains the refrigerant until the compressor is working far harder than it should, and a unit running with a dirty coil uses more electricity for less cooling. Getting a fault looked at early usually means a simpler repair and less time without cooling. If you’re waiting for hot weather to see whether it sorts itself out, it won’t.
What a good quote includes
- A site survey, or clear photos, before the price is fixed
- The make and model of every indoor and outdoor unit, not just “a 3.5 kW unit”
- Pipe runs, electrics, condensate drainage and making good
- Commissioning, a leak test and the F-Gas records
- The manufacturer’s warranty terms for that brand, in writing
- Whether VAT is added, and at what rate
Afterwards
After the repair the system is run and checked in cooling and heating, and you get a note of the fault, what we did and any refrigerant added or recovered for the F-Gas records. Keep the filters clean and the outdoor unit clear, and tell us straight away if the same symptom comes back. An annual service is the best way to catch the next fault before it stops the system.
What customers say
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
Sarah M., East Grinstead
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
James T., Crawley, office manager
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”

Air conditioning repair: common questions
How much does an air conditioning repair cost?
Diagnosis call-outs start from £75 + VAT. Once we know the cause, we give you a fixed price for the repair before any work goes ahead. The cost depends on the fault, the parts needed and access to the units.
Why is my air conditioning blowing warm air?
Common causes are a blocked filter, the wrong mode or set temperature, an outdoor unit that can’t breathe, a failed sensor or board, or low refrigerant from a leak. Check the filter and the settings first. If that doesn’t fix it, call us. Our guide to air con not cooling explains more.
Why is water dripping from my indoor unit?
Usually a blocked or kinked condensate drain, a failed condensate pump or a unit that isn’t level. Ice on the coil from low airflow or low refrigerant can also melt and drip. Switch the unit off and call us. Our article on air conditioning leaking water covers the causes.
Do you repair systems you didn’t install?
Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers and on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model if you know it, and send a photo of any error code.
My system uses R410A. Can it still be repaired?
Yes. Repairing and recharging existing R410A systems is still legal. R410A is getting scarcer and dearer to buy as the GB phase-down tightens, so for older systems we talk through the cost of a repair against a replacement. Our guide to R410A and R22 systems explains the options.
Do you offer an emergency service?
Yes, we have a 24/7 emergency line for urgent breakdowns. See our emergency repair page, or call 07833 053749.
Is the repair covered by my warranty?
If the system is still within the manufacturer’s warranty, the fault may be covered on the manufacturer’s terms. Check the paperwork or tell us the make and install date, and we’ll explain what the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to cover.
Do you give a fixed price before you start?
Yes. After a site survey, or from photos for simple jobs, you get a fixed-price quote so you know the cost before any work starts.
How quickly do you reply?
We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown, there’s a 24/7 emergency line.
