Air conditioning across RH5: what to expect

Thinking about air conditioning but not sure where to start? Just phone us on 07833 053749 or send an email with pictures of the rooms and the outside of the property, and you’ll hear back from us the same working day to arrange a survey or a quote. Typical jobs include an office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers and a portable unit with a hose out of the window, on ducted systems, wall-mounted split systems and VRF systems.

Each visit runs to the same pattern: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, do the work, check the system and talk you through it. On site, the work takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Where we install in RH5

From Dorking, North Holmwood and Pixham outwards, RH5 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.

RH5 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Every job starts with a site survey or photos, then a fixed-price quote.

North Holmwood: Polesden Lacey (roughly 3.8 miles north-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. Older streets near Church of St John the Evangelist may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.

System by system

Ducted systems

Ducted units can feed several rooms through a network of ducts, and they’re easiest to fit while ceilings are open, such as during a refurbishment.

Offices, shops and commercial rooms

Bigger systems in buildings come with extra duties, including a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange and prepare for it.

Honest limits

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council

Keeping the system healthy

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together
  • Shut doors and windows when it’s on
  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
  • Book an annual service

You get the paperwork that matters: the commissioning details, the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information. Keep them with the manual as they’re needed for servicing and any warranty question.

Do not ignore small changes. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault, and early repairs are typically simpler.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Keep a note of anything odd: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

FAQs for RH5

What does F-Gas certified mean?

The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and each engineer needs the right qualifications too. It means the refrigerant in your system is handled legally.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Most of the time, yes: modern splits are usually heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.

When will I hear back?

On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Keep every service record either way.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

From £1,200 + VAT for a single-room split, with a typical range of £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. The price includes supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation and is fixed after a survey or from photos.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
