Air conditioning across RH2: what to expect
Good air conditioning starts with the right system in the right place. Each room is assessed for its size, windows, direction and how it’s used, then agree where the indoor and outdoor units go and how the pipework, cable and condensate drain will run, all before the price is fixed. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, wall-mounted split systems and ducted systems, and the jobs we see most are a portable unit with a hose out of the window and expensive direct electric heating.
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your photos or the details you gave us. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. From there, the work takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.
What you will pay
Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you are not sure what’s needed, call 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we will give you an honest view and a fixed price.
Why people in RH2 choose us

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, ring 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

Reigate: If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Mary Magdalene, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. If you work from home near Reigate station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.
Portfolio owners often want one contractor and one number. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
Different systems, different jobs
Ducted systems
With a ducted system, the indoor unit sits out of sight above the ceiling, and all you see is a discreet grille. It’s popular where people don’t want a unit on the wall.
Ceiling cassettes
A cassette sits flush in a suspended ceiling and spreads air in several directions, which suits offices, shops and open-plan spaces.
Why it fails
Commercial spaces gain heat from people, equipment, lighting and glazing. Comfortable staff and customers are the usual reason businesses get in touch, and some rooms need cooling for the equipment as much as the people.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
- Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
Why act early?
Planning ahead beats a rushed decision in a heatwave. A rushed choice is often the wrong size or in the wrong place, which is costly to undo. Booking the survey early gives you time to weigh up the options.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether testing, commissioning and paperwork are included
- Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
- Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it
- Whether extra work needs your approval first
Your questions about air conditioning in RH2
Who is responsible for leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
Do you cover RH2?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, RH2 included.
Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours and position can affect planning.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so it’s worth checking. Either way, keep a record of every service.
Do I need a new electrical circuit?
Most of the time. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.
How much does air conditioning installation cost?
Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork and is fixed after a survey or from photos.
