About air conditioning in RH3
Any installation we do in RH3 follows the same process as everywhere else we work: a site survey, or photos for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. We’re often asked to deal with commercial rooms that are too warm for staff and rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in, on ceiling cassettes, air-to-air heat pumps and wall-mounted split systems.
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
- Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
- On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
- We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
- It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.
What affects the price in RH3
A single unit or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before any work starts, with VAT shown clearly.

What affects the cost of air conditioning
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- What state the existing equipment is in
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
- A single visit or a regular plan
- How many units are involved
Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.
Before you get in touch
To help us quote quickly, send us:
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
For a fixed-price quote, call 07833 053749 and tell us about the property and what you need. A few photos make it quicker. We reply to enquiries the same working day.
Safe owner checks
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
What the work involves, system by system
Ceiling cassettes
For wide rooms, a cassette spreads the air more evenly than one wall unit, and the slim grille sits neatly in the ceiling.
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Larger buildings may suit VRF, which runs many indoor units from shared outdoor units. VRF and larger commercial jobs are priced after a survey and the quote sets out the design.
What we’re called out for in RH3
Most overheating comes from heat gained through the day. Sun through large windows, roof lights and glazed doors is the biggest source in many rooms, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
Any of these is worth a proper look:
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
- A room that’s unbearable on warm days
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
Common questions in RH3
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.
Will I need planning permission?
It depends on the system and the property. In England, an air source heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, but a cooling-only unit isn’t covered, so check with the council. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats have extra limits. This is general information, not legal advice.
Which type of air conditioning is best?
The right one depends on how many rooms you want to cool, how much space there is outside and how visible you want the indoor units to be. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
In many cases, but permissions come first. You’ll usually need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route and the lease will say. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you protect the property while you work?
We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts when we finish.
Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?
Usually, yes. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. For simple jobs, pictures and a few details can be enough, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.
