Air conditioning near Keymer

Do you need air conditioning in Keymer?

Most overheating comes from heat gained through the day. Sun through large windows, roof lights and glazed doors is the biggest source in many rooms, and the heat lingers long after the sun has moved round.

Customers usually contact us after spotting one of these:

  • A loft conversion that’s too warm to use
  • Fans and portables that don’t keep up
  • Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose

If your home is in one of the older streets near St Cosmas and St Damian Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
  • The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
  • What records you get at the end

Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Just give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with photos of the rooms and the outside of the property, and we’ll reply the same working day to arrange a survey or a quote. When someone in Keymer asks us for air con, the first questions are normally price and who will fit it. We publish typical prices and do the refrigerant work as an F-Gas certified company.

Outdoor units around Keymer often sit on the ground or a low wall bracket at the back of the house, where it’s out of sight from the road and easy to service.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

Homes in Keymer and air conditioning

VOA council tax data date about 42% of homes across Keymer and its surrounding area to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and about 77% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Homes of that age usually have cavity or solid brick walls, and we check which before planning the pipe route. With homes like that, finding a sensible outdoor unit position is rarely hard, and a multi-split lets two or more rooms run off it.

Close to Hassocks station? A small study or box room used for work can usually be cooled with a single indoor unit.

When it’s something else

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before you book.

Where we work

  • VRF systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Ducted systems

  • Multi-split systems

System by system

Outdoor unit positions

We think about noise when we choose the spot: keeping it clear of bedrooms and boundaries where we can, and on anti-vibration mounts. Position can also affect planning.

Electrical supply

We check the consumer unit on the survey, so the quote covers any electrical work needed. An older board may need extra work and we’ll tell you if yours does.

How the visit works

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. We load the van from the survey notes so the work in Keymer can be done in one go where possible.

  1. First comes a site survey, or photos and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. Each room is sized and you get a fixed-price quote setting out the equipment and the unit positions.
  3. On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
  4. Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Mention any parking restrictions near the property

Getting a price

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Advice

Keymer questions

Do you cover smaller places like Keymer?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Keymer?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. There’s a conservation area, the Keymer Conservation Area, close to central Keymer. Permitted development only covers heat pumps that aren’t used solely for cooling, and not within the grounds of a listed building. Conservation areas add limits on outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with Mid Sussex council, which is usually the planning authority for Keymer.

Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?

Most of the time. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.

Do you work on all makes?

We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It means the refrigerant in your system is handled legally.

What a customer said

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
