Air conditioning in BN6: how it works

Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. We are often asked to deal with an old system that needs replacing and portable units that are noisy and barely cope, across wall-mounted split systems, ceiling cassettes and ducted systems.

The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your pictures or the details you gave us. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, the work takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

How we quote

Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The system, the access, the pipe routes and the parts involved all play a part.

What you get with us

  • One number for homes and businesses across London and the South East
  • MCS certification for heat pump work
  • Warranty terms set out brand by brand
  • F-Gas company certification

How to get a quote

Want a quote for air conditioning? Please give us a ring on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier with a few details about the property. We will explain what we’d recommend and why, then send a fixed-price quote before you commit to anything.

What’s near Hurstpierpoint

Typical jobs here are in properties near Downlands Community School, Hurstpierpoint Baptist Church and St Lawrence CofE Primary School, among other places. For rail, the closest station is Hassocks station, roughly 1.5 miles south-east. Nearby you’ll also find The Dene Hospital (2.1 miles north) and Clayton Castle (2.3 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Bedelands Farm Nature Reserve and Wolstonbury Hill.

Where we install in BN6

Our air conditioning work across BN6 takes in places such as Lewes, Hurstpierpoint and Hassocks and the smaller places around them. We cover every place we list for BN6, 18 in all.

BN6 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote.

Hurstpierpoint: Older streets near Hurstpierpoint Baptist Church may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. A loft bedroom or a glazed extension is often the room that prompts the first call.

After we’ve gone

To keep the system working properly:

  • Book an annual service
  • Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
  • Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs
  • Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit

Questions after the installation go to the same number. Let us know what’s happening and any error code and we will help you sort it out.

Don’t ignore small changes. Water from the indoor unit, a new rattle or a code on the display usually means something needs attention and catching it early keeps the repair small.

Pricing air conditioning in BN6

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We consider:

  • The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • The condition of any existing system
  • The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 07833 053749 and we will give you an honest view and a fixed price.

What we need to know

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price a simple job. Useful things to send:

  • The rating plate or label on any existing unit
  • A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
  • Wide photos of the room or the existing unit
  • The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business

For a fixed-price quote, ring 07833 053749 with the address and a few details about the rooms or units involved. A few photos make it quicker. We reply to enquiries the same working day.

Honest limits

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)
  • A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation

What the work involves, system by system

Wall-mounted split systems

For one room, a wall-mounted split is often the simplest answer. The indoor unit sits high on a wall, the outdoor unit goes outside, and the two are joined by insulated pipework, a cable and a condensate drain, with the route agreed on the survey.

Electrical supply

Most systems need their own circuit from the consumer unit. We are NICEIC approved, so we fit and certify the circuit ourselves and that covers the Part P side.

BN6: your questions answered

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before booking anyone, and we are happy to show ours.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Do I need planning permission?

Not necessarily. Permitted development can cover a heat pump on a house, including an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools since 2025, provided the conditions are met. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it typically comes up and the survey picks it up. This is general information, not legal advice.

Which manufacturers do you install and repair?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and tell you why.

How do I know what size unit to get?

It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count, and we take them all into account on the survey.

Does air conditioning work as heating?

Most of the time, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. If you want it to replace your main heating, ask about air-to-air heat pumps and the conditions for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.

How long does it take to fit air conditioning?

A single-room system is usually fitted in a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access, and we tell you how long on the quote.
