Our air conditioning service in RH15

Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. Typical jobs include a home office that warms up with screens and equipment and rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in, on air-to-air heat pumps, wall-mounted split systems and ceiling cassettes.

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, which takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

Pricing in RH15

Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.

Air conditioning across RH15: local notes

Our air conditioning work across RH15 takes in places such as Burgess Hill, Lewes and World's End and the smaller places around them. Every place on our RH15 list (5 in all) is covered.

RH15 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.

Burgess Hill: Living close to St John the Evangelist's Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. Ockenden Manor, about 3.4 miles north, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

When it’s something else

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)
  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the system is mostly common sense. A few tips:

  • Shut doors and windows when it’s on
  • File the paperwork with the manual
  • Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
  • Keep to the service interval the manufacturer recommends

Before we leave, the system is commissioned and tested in each mode. Once it’s running properly, we take you through the controls and settings, so you’re confident using it.

Keep the outdoor unit clear. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We work for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as homeowners and businesses. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we’ll copy in whoever needs it.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the property, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed-price quote.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

FAQs for RH15

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do I need planning permission?

It can do. The rules differ for heat pumps and cooling-only air conditioning, and for houses, flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We flag anything that may need permission when we survey and the council makes the decision. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we’ll tell you what your brand asks for.

What does it cost to install air conditioning?

For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, with supply, fitting, commissioning and F-Gas documentation included. The price is fixed before work begins.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.

Do you work on all makes?

We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.
