Air source heat pumps in Row Town, done properly

Many air source heat pumps can be installed as permitted development in England, without a planning application. Conditions include a maximum outdoor unit size of 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), use for more than cooling alone and a site outside the curtilage of a listed building. We check the rules for your property as part of the survey. The work covers air-to-water heat pumps, hot water cylinders and underfloor heating, and people most often call us about moving away from fossil-fuel heating and questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

Older homes around Row Town can be draughty or have solid walls, so a proper heat loss calculation matters. Sometimes insulation first is the better investment.

Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

What air source heat pumps cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
  • Tax advice on your own circumstances
  • Any gas work on the existing boiler

Not sure which it is? You can ring us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Where we work

  • Radiator systems
  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Hot water cylinders

How it works

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. On site, the work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Because we plan from pictures or a survey, a job in Row Town can normally be finished in one visit.

  1. You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
  3. You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
  4. The system is installed and connected to the controls.
  5. After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits

Ask for a quote

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.

Related advice

Row Town: your questions answered

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Row Town?

Row Town is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and is not an add-on to a boiler. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Is a heat pump in Row Town permitted development?

It depends on the property. The Caxton Avenue Conservation Area is close to the centre of Row Town. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for Row Town, normally Runnymede council) first.

How soon will you get back to me?

The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we’ll explain them, and book the service at the interval they recommend.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, we work the same way: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.

What affects the quote in Row Town

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • The condition of any existing system
  • Whether the existing supply is suitable
  • The equipment or parts the job needs

Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Call for a fixed-price quote and we’ll explain each part.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it’s useful to have:

  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
  • Your installation or service records
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, call 07833 053749 or email us.

For landlords and property managers

From a single flat to a whole estate, the approach is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.

From one of our customers

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
