Heat pump installation in Farnham, Surrey
We cover Farnham for MCS certified installation of air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant applied for. Diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we finish.

- Choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air
- Questions about where the outdoor unit can go
Air source heat pumps in Farnham
Every installation starts with a heat loss survey. That tells us how much heat the home needs, room by room so the system is sized to match. Guesswork leads to systems that are too big or too small. Typical jobs include questions about listed buildings or conservation areas and deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home, across homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, radiator systems and underfloor heating.
Older homes in a town like Farnham can still suit a heat pump, sometimes with larger radiators or more insulation. The heat loss calculation shows what’s needed.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

Before you call an engineer
Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
Homes in Farnham and heat pumps
About 63% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
If your home is near Farnham station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits. With Farnham Castle about 0.6 miles north-west, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

When something else is needed
Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’ll tell you before we start. It doesn’t solve:
- Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
- Planning approval where permitted development doesn’t apply
- Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler

Questions from Farnham
Is the heat pump grant available in Farnham?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Farnham is in England, where it applies. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.
Can I fit a heat pump in Farnham without planning permission?
The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. There’s a conservation area, the Farnham Conservation Area, close to central Farnham. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where necessary, we check with Waverley council, which is typically the planning authority for Farnham.
Which type of heat pump is right for my home?
Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling. The survey helps decide. Both are part of what we install.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
Is Farnham in your area?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes Farnham.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine from all the leading brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
The work takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. We confirm the timing after the survey, so call 07833 053749 or email us to arrange one.
What happens on the day
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then the work itself, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, which takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Let us know about side gates, ladders or locked areas at your property in Farnham.
- It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
- Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
- Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.
Getting ready for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property
Ask for a quote
Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
Advice
Different systems, different jobs
Heat loss surveys
A heat loss survey measures how much heat each room loses on a cold day. It’s the basis for sizing the heat pump and the radiators.
Air-to-air heat pumps
The £2,500 grant for air-to-air applies only when the system replaces the fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s demand. It also has to be fitted by an MCS certified installer, in a home.
From one of our customers
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
