System by system
Hot water cylinders
Existing cylinders may not be suitable for a heat pump, and we explain whether yours can stay.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers England and Wales: £7,500 for air-to-water (and ground source), and £2,500 for air-to-air with strict conditions. The installer applies.
How we handle air source heat pumps in Dippenhall
For an air-to-water heat pump, the price is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers a £7,500 grant towards an eligible air-to-water installation, and as the installer we apply for it on your behalf. Eligibility depends on the property, so we confirm it before anything is agreed. Typical jobs include replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump and wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating, across radiator systems, air-to-air heat pumps and hot water cylinders.
Homes around Dippenhall normally have room outside for a heat pump, so the design comes down to heat loss, radiators and hot water.
The records are your system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer, so keep it safe.

The process
Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in Dippenhall.
- We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- We install, commission and register the system under MCS.

Advice
Looking after your system
How well a system lasts depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Use the settings explained at handover
- Don’t block radiators or indoor units with furniture
- Book a yearly service
Once commissioned, we register the installation with MCS and give you the certificate. File it with the warranty documents for future reference.
Leave space around the outdoor unit. It needs good airflow to collect heat from outside, so keep it clear all year.
Do you need air source heat pumps in Dippenhall?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme has made people ask whether their home could qualify. Whether you can get the grant depends on your home and the scheme conditions, so we check before you commit.
Customers usually contact us when they notice something like this:
- Replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump
- Questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
- Plans to switch to electric heating with a heat pump
Older homes near St Francis may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.
What your quote should include
- Who does the electrical work, and whether they can certify it
- Whether the quote is a fixed price
- What paperwork you will receive afterwards
Air source heat pumps in Dippenhall: the local picture
About 37 miles out from central London, Dippenhall is part of the South East area we work across. Burles Burles Cottage, listed at grade II, is one of roughly 6 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Dippenhall’s centre. For a heat pump, permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the local planning authority (typically Hart council) where needed.
If your home is listed, like Farnham Castle about 1.4 miles east, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work.

Dippenhall: your questions answered
Is Dippenhall within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Is the heat pump grant available in Dippenhall?
Dippenhall is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and is not an add-on to a boiler. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.
Will you make a mess?
Protection goes down first: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards before we leave.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, the approach is the same: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.
From one of our customers
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
