About our air source heat pumps in Redlands

Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than most boilers, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. We check each radiator against the room’s heat loss, and the quote sets it out. Common call-outs are for working out whether radiators need upsizing and ageing boilers that will need replacing, on hot water cylinders, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and radiator systems.

Homes around Redlands typically have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

The records are your system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler and it’s worth keeping safe.

For landlords and property managers

Records are where property maintenance often slips. Every visit is written up, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, ready for a tenant, a buyer or an inspection.

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is, and we can work for either side.

When something else is needed

Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules
  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • Getting planning permission or listed building consent on your behalf

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

Redlands questions

Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Redlands?

Redlands is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Is Redlands within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?

The heat loss survey answers that, room by room. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays and any changes are in the quote.

What accreditations do you have?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We’re also Checkatrade members.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

A typical installation takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short and agreed before work begins.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule with a fixed price. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.

The process

Each visit follows the same order: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, do the work, check the system and explain it all to you. The visit itself takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. We agree a date with you and plan the visit to Redlands so we arrive with what’s needed.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
  3. The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

Advice

Heat pumps in Redlands: local notes

Redlands’s centre falls inside a designated conservation area. About 4 listed entries lie within half a mile of central Redlands, Combe Wood Cottage (grade II) among them. So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area? About 37% of homes in Redlands and the neighbourhoods around it have been built since 2000, according to VOA council tax data, and the 2021 Census found about 64% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Newer homes usually lose less heat, which tends to suit a heat pump well. Houses typically have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

If your home is one of the older properties near Church of All Saints, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. If your home is listed, like Farnham Castle about 2.3 miles south-east, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work.

Redlands is about 3 miles south of Fleet, in Surrey. Redlands gets the same approach as every job we take on: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote and written records at the end. Our Surrey coverage runs to 395 places, Redlands among them. The nearest of our city pages is Guildford, around 12 miles from Redlands.

Not far from Redlands, a recent job of ours was on Castle Street, Farnham (GU9), about 3 miles south-east: installing a Fujitsu multi-split system serving three offices and a client meeting room.

Looking after it afterwards

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • File the MCS certificate safely
  • Find out the grant position at the survey
  • Seal draughts where you can

Should you have questions after the install, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we will talk it through. Annual servicing helps keep the system working well.

Book a service every year. Your manufacturer’s warranty terms may say something about servicing.
