Air source heat pumps in Tandridge
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. This is HMRC’s energy-saving materials relief, which applies to homes rather than businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. If the problem is choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air and finding a place for the outdoor unit, we can sort it out.
Older and listed homes in villages like Tandridge need extra care, and permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.
Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

Air source heat pumps in Tandridge: the local picture
VOA council tax data date about 41% of homes in Tandridge and the neighbourhoods around it to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and about 61% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Houses usually have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
With Titsey Place about 3.4 miles north-east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump. Live in one of the older houses around Church of St Peter? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.
Tandridge is about 2 miles south-west of Oxted, in Surrey. Tandridge gets the same approach as every job we take on: diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we have finished. Count every place we list in Surrey and you reach 395, with Tandridge on the list. The nearest of our city pages is Reigate, around 7 miles from Tandridge.
The closest recent job we can point to from Tandridge was on Granville Road, Oxted (RH8), about 2 miles north-east: installing a Mitsubishi Electric wall-mounted unit in the home gym and a second unit in the master bedroom.
You will find streets such as Jackass Lane, Tandridge Lane and The Walk, each of them within reach. Every address in RH8 and RH9 is within our area, from busy streets to back roads. Neighbouring places we cover include Church Town (1 mile north-west), South Godstone (1 mile south-west), Hurst Green (2 miles east), Godstone (2 miles north-west) and Oxted (2 miles north-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Epsom (12 miles north-west), Horley (7 miles south-west), Redhill (6 miles west) and Ewell (12 miles north-west).

How the visit works
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. For a village like Tandridge, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- We start with your plans and the property.
- We survey for heat loss and look at radiators, cylinder space and outdoor unit options.
- We explain which type of heat pump suits the home and whether a grant could apply.
- Installation follows on the agreed dates.
- After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.
Before we arrive
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
- Keep pets out of the rooms we are working in

What the work involves, system by system
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers England and Wales: £7,500 for air-to-water (and ground source), and £2,500 for air-to-air with strict conditions. The installer applies.
Hot water cylinders
Existing cylinders may not be suitable for a heat pump, and we explain whether yours can stay.
Pricing air source heat pumps in Tandridge
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Access, including height, roofs and ladders
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
- Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
One room or a whole building, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before we start, and the quote sets out the VAT.
What to send for a quote
To speed up the quote, send us:
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
Tandridge questions
Can I fit a heat pump in Tandridge without planning permission?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The half-mile around the middle of Tandridge holds about 6 listed buildings and structures. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the planning department at Tandridge council, normally the authority for Tandridge.
Is Tandridge within the area you cover?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.
Which accreditations do you hold?
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We’re also Checkatrade members.
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant?
Eligibility depends on the property and the scheme rules. The scheme gives £7,500 for eligible air-to-water or ground source systems, and £2,500 for air-to-air only under strict conditions, and we check before you commit.
Will you make a mess?
We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards when we finish.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and we hold it.
What air conditioning won’t do
Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we will tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:
- Planning decisions, which rest with the council
- Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
- Tax advice on your own circumstances
If you are not sure, just call us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

From one of our customers
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
