Why it’s worth doing now in Normandy

Replacing a boiler in a hurry when it breaks leaves little time to consider a heat pump. Surveying and designing in advance means the system is sized right and any grant is applied for while the old heating still works. Booking before summer means the work in Normandy is done before the hot weather.

Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will explain each part.

Why book with us

  • A reply the same working day

About our air source heat pumps in Normandy

Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5%. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it doesn’t apply to businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. Typical jobs include deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home and planning and permitted development questions, on hot water cylinders, air-to-water heat pumps and air-to-air heat pumps.

Older and listed homes in villages like Normandy need extra care, and permitted development does not cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

The process

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. The visit takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Normandy easier.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is

Getting a price

Here’s what helps us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, pictures of the rooms or units, the make and model of any existing system and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Then ring us on 07833 053749.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

Common questions in Normandy

Is Normandy within the area you cover?

Yes. Normandy is within the area we cover across London and the South East. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Can I fit a heat pump in Normandy without planning permission?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The half-mile around the middle of Normandy holds about 8 listed buildings and structures. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with Guildford council, which is usually the planning authority for Normandy first.

Is there VAT on a heat pump?

In residential accommodation, 0% until 31 March 2027 and 5% afterwards. The relief does not cover businesses. Please treat this as general information, not tax advice.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for breakdowns that cannot wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes. Every visit is written up, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine from all the leading brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Air source heat pumps in Normandy: the local picture

About 50% of homes in Normandy and the neighbourhoods around it date from 1945 to 1972, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and about 61% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

For a home near Wanborough station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better. Live in one of the older houses around Church of St Mark? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

  • Planning approval where permitted development does not apply

Not sure which it is? You can ring us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
