Homes in Gatton and heat pumps
The Gatton Conservation Area is within about a third of a mile of the centre of Gatton. On the National Heritage List, around 7 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Gatton; Church of St Andrew (grade I) is one. That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where necessary, we check with Reigate and Banstead council, usually the planning authority here. Valuation Office Agency council tax records date about 62% of homes in and around Gatton to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period.
Live in one of the older houses around St Andrew's Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. A heat loss calculation decides the size of heat pump your home needs.

About our air source heat pumps in Gatton
Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside, using electricity to drive the process. It works on the same principle as air conditioning, run the other way and the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. We’re often asked to deal with deciding on the outdoor unit position and planning and permitted development questions, on radiator systems, hot water cylinders and air-to-air heat pumps.
In a place like Gatton, some homes are listed, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.
For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We’ll tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Common questions in Gatton
Is the heat pump grant available in Gatton?
Gatton is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Will you come out to Gatton?
Yes. Gatton is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
A typical installation takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short and agreed before work begins.
What warranty do I get?
Warranty comes from the manufacturer and depends on the brand and product. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning and we explain the terms for your brand on the quote.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Either way, keep a record of every service.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
What air conditioning won’t do
We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so these are the things it will not cover:
- Tax advice on your own circumstances
- A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules
- Planning decisions, which rest with the council
If you’re not sure, just ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.
What the work covers
- Radiator systems
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
- Underfloor heating
- Hot water cylinders
What we do, step by step
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Photos of the room and the outside of the property help us plan a visit to Gatton.
- We start with your plans and the property.
- The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
- We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
- We install the heat pump and connect it up.
- The job ends with commissioning, the MCS certificate and a walk through the controls.
How to prepare
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
- Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
- Clear access to the fuse board
How to get a quote
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Add the address and what you’d like done, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Safe owner checks
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

How we price air source heat pumps
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
- What electrical work the job needs
Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
- A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
For a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 with the address and a few details about the rooms or units involved. Photos help a lot. You’ll hear back from us the same working day.
From one of our customers
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
