About air conditioning in KT9
Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: survey first, install second, commission and hand over last. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, multi-split systems and VRF systems, and people most often call us about a business premises that overheats in summer and an old system that needs replacing.
Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. The work takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.
What you’ll pay
Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Call for a fixed-price quote and we’ll explain each part.

Air conditioning around KT9
In KT9, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units are not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
From London flats to coastal homes and country cottages, London and the South East have every kind of property. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.
Chessington: Fitznells Manor (roughly 2.2 miles east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. Homes near Church of St Mary the Virgin are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.
When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Central heating repairs
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
- A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)
How we price air conditioning
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- The pipe route between the units
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
- What state the existing equipment is in
Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
What to send for a quote:
- The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the system working properly:
- Use moderate settings for comfort and economy
- Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
- Have the system serviced once a year
- Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit
If anything isn’t right after we’ve gone, call us on the same number. Let us know what’s happening and any error code and we’ll help you sort it out.
Give the outdoor unit room to breathe. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, which makes the whole system less efficient.
What we’re called out for in KT9
Portable units are often where people start, and why they call us. A portable unit has to vent its warm air through a hose out of a window, which lets some heat back in, and its compressor sits in the room with you. With a split system, the compressor lives outside.
The things we are asked about most include:
- Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
Your questions about air conditioning in KT9
Which type of system should I choose?
It depends on the rooms and the building. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.
Which brands do you work with?
The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and explain why.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before we start, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, normally whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
We agree it with you on the survey. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We’ll tell you what to check before we fit it.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. That is not optional: it’s required by law, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we’ll propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
