Our air conditioning service in SM2

Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Just give us a ring on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier with photos of the rooms and the outside of the property, and we’ll reply the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. The work covers ducted systems, air-to-air heat pumps and ceiling cassettes, and common reasons people get in touch are rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night and too many options and no clear advice.

Each visit runs to the same pattern: check the plan with you, protect the area, do the work, check the system and explain it all to you. On site, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.

What you will pay

Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Why people in SM2 choose us

  • One number for homes and businesses across London and the South East
  • An F-Gas certified company, as the law requires
  • MCS certification for heat pump work
  • Manufacturer’s warranty terms explained on your quote

How to get a quote

Quotes don’t take long. Call or email with a few details and we’ll come back to you the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

Near you in Shanklin Village

We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around Church of St John, Harris Academy Sutton and Glaisdale School, among other places. Nearby too are Manor Park (1.1 miles north), Avenue Primary Academy (under half a mile south-west) and The Old Bank pub (0.9 miles north). There’s a railway station in Shanklin Village itself: Belmont station. Other landmarks nearby include Honeywood Museum (1.8 miles north-east) and Chessington Castle Hill (4.2 miles west). Open spaces near Shanklin Village include Belmont Pastures and Duppas Hill.

Where we install in SM2

In SM2, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units are not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.

We are based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, SM2 included. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote.

Shanklin Village: Nonsuch Mansion, about 1.6 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. If you work from home near Belmont station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.

How we price air conditioning

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but every job is priced on its own. What we look at:

  • What electrical work the job needs
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • How far the pipework has to run, and where
  • What state the existing equipment is in

Our prices page shows typical ranges, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we will talk you through it.

Before you get in touch

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • The fuse board and where it is in the property
  • Your installation or service records
  • Any error code or flashing light on the display
  • The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go

To help us quote: the address and the type of property, a few photos, the make and model of any existing system and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

Let and managed properties

Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party and send the records to whoever needs them.

What the work involves, system by system

Ceiling cassettes

A cassette needs a void above the ceiling for the unit, pipework and drain, with a condensate pump where the drain cannot fall naturally. The survey confirms the void and the drain route.

Ducted systems

One ducted unit can serve more than one room through separate ducts and grilles, which suits new builds, extensions and refurbishments where ceilings are open.

Why it fails

Some people come to us for heating rather than cooling. Old direct electric heaters turn electricity straight into heat, while a heat pump moves heat in from the outside air, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. Most modern split systems work this way.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
  • Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
  • An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
  • Expensive direct electric heating

FAQs for SM2

Which type of system should I choose?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling and the survey confirms what’s possible.

Where does the outdoor unit go?

It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we will agree what happens next.

What accreditations do you have?

F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, and we’re Checkatrade members. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.

Will I need planning permission?

Not necessarily. Permitted development can cover a heat pump on a house, including an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools since 2025, provided the conditions are met. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it typically comes up, and we tell you at the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
