Air conditioning across Greater London: what to expect

Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. We’re often asked to deal with portable units that are noisy and barely cope and rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night, across VRF systems, multi-split systems and air-to-air heat pumps.

You do not need to do much on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and the rest is down to us. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you.

  1. First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
  4. Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
  5. The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.

What you will pay

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a system working harder than it should costs more to run. If you are unsure, phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form for straight advice and a fixed price.

What you get with us

  • MCS certification for heat pump work
  • Electrical work covered by our NICEIC approval
  • 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns
  • We diagnose before we treat

Ask for a quote

Getting a quote is straightforward. Call or email with a few details and we’ll come back to you the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

Air conditioning across Greater London

From London, City of Westminster and Marylebone outwards, Greater London has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.

Enquiries from Greater London get a reply on the working day they arrive. Breakdowns can go to the 24/7 line instead.

London: If you work from home near Elephant & Castle station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. About 1 mile north stands Mansion House. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one.

When it’s something else

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
  • Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators
  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation

How we price air conditioning

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • What kind of system it is
  • The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
  • Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
  • Which make and model is being fitted or worked on

What you pay depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, how easy the units are to reach and what the work involves. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

What we need to know

Good photos often save a visit. The most useful are:

  • Your consumer unit or fuse board
  • The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • Your installation or service records

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, with the rate that applies to your job. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. For a fixed-price quote, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

What the work involves, system by system

Ducted systems

Ducted systems need space for the unit and the ductwork, and access for servicing. The survey confirms whether there’s room.

Wall-mounted split systems

For one room, a wall-mounted split is often the simplest answer. One unit inside, one outside, connected by pipework, a cable and a drain, with the route agreed on the survey.

Aftercare tips

Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Tell us if the unit starts to leak, rattle or show a code
  • Use moderate settings for comfort and economy
  • Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit
  • File the paperwork with the manual

We recommend an annual service, and some manufacturers make regular servicing a condition of their warranty. We can remind you when it’s due if you’d like.

Keep the outdoor unit clear. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

Greater London questions

What accreditations do you have?

F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, and we’re Checkatrade members. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what’s needed, where things go and what access we need and the fixed price is built on it.

What warranty do I get?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some brands make regular servicing a condition so it’s worth keeping the service records.

What does it cost to install air conditioning?

It depends on the rooms, the system and the pipe route, but a single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Where you sit in the range depends on pipe length, access, electrics and the model, while commercial systems are priced after a survey.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. Noise near bedrooms and boundaries is part of the decision and position can affect planning.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Most of the time, yes: modern splits are typically heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.

Will you need to do electrical work?

Usually, yes. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.
