Air conditioning for Morden

About our air conditioning in Morden

We approach an installation much as a doctor approaches a patient: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. For air conditioning in Morden, one call covers the survey, the fixed-price quote, the installation and the F-Gas paperwork, wherever you are in Greater London.

Many installs in Morden can go ahead as permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and flats need more care: we flag that at the survey.

Across London, and in Morden too, a lot of air conditioning goes into flats and terraces rather than detached houses. That shapes the job: where the outdoor unit can go, how the pipework reaches it and who needs to agree first. A freeholder or managing agent often has a say in a flat, and we can give you the details they’ll ask for.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. Keep it with the system’s paperwork so it’s to hand next time.

System by system

Ducted systems

With a ducted system, the indoor unit sits out of sight above the ceiling, and all you see is a discreet grille. It’s popular where people do not want a unit on the wall.

Ceiling cassettes

A cassette needs a void above the ceiling for the unit, pipework and drain, and many use a built-in condensate pump to lift the water away. The survey confirms the void and the drain route.

Air conditioning in Morden: local notes

About 84% of homes in the Morden area were built between the wars, according to VOA council tax data, and about 53% of households live in terraced houses, according to the last census (2021). Homes of that age typically have cavity or solid brick walls, and we check which before planning the pipe route. Terraces have little side access, so the outdoor unit usually goes on the rear wall or a flat roof, with the pipe run kept short. London installs often hinge on outside space, the lease and access to the building.

Plenty of people near St Helier station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit. Southside House (roughly 1.9 miles north-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.

Morden: your questions answered

Can I fit air conditioning in Morden without planning permission?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Central Morden sits inside the Upper Morden Conservation Area. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and is not used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof isn’t allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask Merton council, which is usually the planning authority for Morden.

Can you do air conditioning in Morden?

Yes. Morden is one of the places we cover. To start, call us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier with a few photos.

How do you keep the place clean during the work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.

How long will the installation take?

A single-room system is typically fitted in a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access, and we tell you how long on the quote.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. Each visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we’ll advise on what to do next.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That is a legal requirement, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

When it’s something else

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators

Not sure which it is? You can ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Ducted systems
  • VRF systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Multi-split systems

What happens if it’s left?

Refrigerant rules have changed what new systems use. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088. In a London building, getting the freeholder’s or agent’s agreement can take a while, so it’s worth starting early.

A single unit or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You will have a fixed price before we start, and the quote sets out the VAT.

What happens on the day

The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby, and we ask before moving anything. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. It takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access, and we tidy up before we leave. A few pictures of the room, the outside wall and the fuse board help us plan a job in Morden.

  1. You send pictures, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear access to the fuse board
  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Mention any parking restrictions near the property

How to get a quote

Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.
