Air conditioning in East Wickham: the local picture

About 57% of homes in East Wickham and the neighbourhoods around it were built between the wars, according to VOA council tax data. Homes of that age typically have cavity or solid brick walls, and we check which before planning the pipe route. In London, outdoor unit positions, building rules and access tend to need more planning than the install itself.

If you commute from Welling station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed.

East Wickham is about 1 mile north-west of Welling, in Greater London. Whatever kind of property you have in East Wickham, our engineers can help with air conditioning. Air conditioning for homes and businesses in East Wickham

Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. When someone in East Wickham asks us for air con, the first questions are normally price and who will fit it. We publish typical prices and do the refrigerant work as an F-Gas certified company.

The electrics are part of the job: a dedicated circuit where the unit needs one, certified under NICEIC, so there’s no separate electrician or building control visit to arrange.

London homes in East Wickham can be short of outside space, which means a rear wall bracket, a flat roof or a balcony is often the best spot for the outdoor unit. Neighbours’ windows and noise matter as much as appearance when we choose the position, and the pipe run is planned to be short, neat and out of the way.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we set them out on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

Your questions about air conditioning in East Wickham

Can you fit air conditioning in a London flat in East Wickham?

Often, yes, but the lease and the freeholder normally have a say. We look at where the outdoor unit could go, such as a balcony, flat roof or rear wall, and write it up for the freeholder or agent.

Do you cover East Wickham for air conditioning?

Yes, East Wickham is within the area we cover. Tell us a little about the job and we’ll take it from there.

How soon will you get back to me?

On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

Each manufacturer decides. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim and we’ll tell you what your brand asks for.

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

Most systems need their own supply from the consumer unit. Under Part P, a new circuit has to be notified unless a registered competent person does it, and we are NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns that can’t wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

Do you need air conditioning in East Wickham?

Portable units are often where people start, and why they call us. Portables push their warm air out through a hose in the window, so the window cannot close properly and the noisy part of the unit is in the room. A fixed split system puts the compressor outside.

Any of these is worth a proper look:

  • A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement
  • Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient
  • Rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night

Danson House, about 1.3 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

What your quote should include

  • Whether anyone has checked the property or the system first
  • How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
  • Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it

How to choose an air conditioning engineer

The process

Protection comes first: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby, and we ask before moving anything. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. It takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems, and we tidy up before we leave. Pictures of the space and the outside wall help us plan the work in East Wickham.

  1. You send pictures, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
  • Let us know where we can park and unload
  • Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working

Before you call an engineer

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

Leave it or put it right?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg can’t use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088. Planning ahead in East Wickham means you choose the date, not the weather.

Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we’ll explain each part.
