Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. Most split systems we fit in Covent Garden are reversible: in heating mode they work as an air-to-air heat pump, which is why many owners use theirs all year.

Where the outdoor unit goes decides how quiet and tidy the job is: airflow, noise towards neighbours, pipe length and access for servicing all count.

Space outside is often tight in Covent Garden, as in much of London, which means a rear wall bracket, a flat roof or a balcony is often the best spot for the outdoor unit. Neighbours’ windows and noise matter as much as appearance when we choose the position, and we plan the pipe route so it’s as short and tidy as the building allows.

The records are your system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer and it’s worth keeping safe.

Let and managed properties

Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we will copy in whoever needs it.

Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.

When something else is needed

In fairness, some problems need a different answer:

  • Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council

If you’re not sure, just phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Where we work

Your questions about air conditioning in Covent Garden

Do you cover Covent Garden for air conditioning?

Yes, Covent Garden is within the area we cover. To start, call 07833 053749 or drop us a line with a few pictures.

Is planning permission needed for air conditioning in Covent Garden?

The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. The centre of Covent Garden is in the Covent Garden Conservation Area. A system that heats as well as cools may not need an application on a house, provided it stays within the permitted development limits. Cooling-only units get no such allowance, and listed buildings and road-facing positions in conservation areas need more care. We speak to the local planning authority (for Covent Garden, usually Westminster council) when it matters.

Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?

In most cases, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, 24/7. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will talk you through the next steps.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Do you work on all makes?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and explain why.

How do you size the system?

Floor area is only part of it. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count and the survey covers each of them.

Homes in Covent Garden and air conditioning

VOA council tax data put about 50% of homes across Covent Garden and its surrounding area before 1919, and about 96% of households live in flats, according to Census 2021 figures. Older properties often mean solid walls and period details, so pipe runs are planned to stay neat and out of sight. For a flat, we look at balconies, flat roofs and rear walls for the outdoor unit, and the lease often needs checking first. In London, outdoor unit positions, building rules and access tend to need more planning than the install itself.

Around Crown Court Church, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install. Plenty of people near London Charing Cross station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit.

What we do, step by step

Each visit runs to the same pattern: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, carry out the job, test what we have done and explain it all to you. On site, the work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. If a freeholder or agent needs to agree the work in Covent Garden, we can send them the details.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
  4. Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
  5. The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, call us on 07833 053749 or send an email.

Advice

Different systems, different jobs

Wall-mounted split systems

Single-room split systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, with supply, fitting, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork included. Long pipe runs, difficult access and a new circuit affect where your job sits in the range.

Multi-split systems

A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. The pipe routes to each room make the biggest difference to the price.
