Air conditioning in Walthamstow: local notes

About 56% of homes in and around Walthamstow were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records, and about 55% of households live in flats, according to the 2021 Census. Older properties often mean solid walls and period details, so pipe runs are planned to stay neat and out of sight. In flats, the lease and the freeholder usually decide where an outdoor unit can go, and the permitted development rules for flats are tighter. For a London home, we plan the outdoor unit position, the pipe route and any approvals before the day.

Close to Walthamstow Central station? A small study or box room used for work can normally be cooled with a single indoor unit. Bruce Castle (roughly 2.4 miles west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.

About our air conditioning in Walthamstow

Air conditioning is not only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. Most enquiries from Walthamstow start with one hot room: a bedroom, a home office or a loft conversion. A single-room split system is often the answer, from £1,200 + VAT.

London homes in Walthamstow can be short of outside space, so the outdoor unit may end up on a rear wall, a flat roof or a balcony. We look at noise towards neighbours and windows as well as looks, and we plan the pipe route so it’s as short and tidy as the building allows.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. Keep it with the system’s paperwork so it’s to hand next time.

How the visit works

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. If a freeholder or agent needs to agree the work in Walthamstow, we can send them the details.

  1. We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
  4. Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
  5. The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.

Before we arrive

  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them

Getting a price

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, with the rate that applies to your job. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

When it’s something else

We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)

Not sure which it is? You can ring us on 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What the work covers

  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • VRF systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Ducted systems
  • Multi-split systems

Leave it or put it right?

Fans and portables move warm air around rather than removing it. A fixed system removes the heat to the outside, runs more quietly in the room and can typically heat as well, so it works for you in winter as well. Getting the work done in Walthamstow before summer avoids the busiest weeks.

Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will go through it with you.

Why people in Walthamstow choose us

Questions from Walthamstow

Do I need permission to put air conditioning in my flat in Walthamstow?

Often, yes, but the lease and the freeholder typically have a say. We look at where the outdoor unit could go, such as a balcony, flat roof or rear wall, and write it up for the freeholder or agent.

Can you do air conditioning in Walthamstow?

We do: Walthamstow falls inside our working area. To start, phone 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few photos.

How long does it take to fit air conditioning?

Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access, and we tell you how long on the quote.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

Which brands do you work with?

We install and work on the leading makes, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we’ll take it from there.

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

Most of the time, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Under Part P, a new circuit has to be notified unless a registered competent person does it, and as NICEIC approved contractors we install and certify it as part of the job.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, day and night. When you call, tell us the make, what’s happening and any error code, and we’ll advise on what to do next.

Keeping the system healthy

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Report drips, noises or error codes right away
  • Book an annual service
  • Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use

We recommend an annual service, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We can remind you when it’s due if you’d like.

Use sensible settings. A moderate set temperature cools the room just as well as the lowest one, without the waste and keep doors and windows shut while it runs.

A customer’s words

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
