About air conditioning in E17
Good air conditioning starts with the right system in the right place. Each room is assessed for its size, windows, direction and how it’s used, and we agree the unit positions and the route for the pipes, cable and drain, all before the price is fixed. We are often asked to deal with an old system that needs replacing and too many options and no clear advice, across multi-split systems, air-to-air heat pumps and ducted systems.
The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby and nothing is moved without asking you. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer, and we tidy up before we leave.
- First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- Brackets go on, the units are hung and the refrigerant lines, cable and drain are routed between them.
- Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
- Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.
What you’ll pay
Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will go through it with you.

How to get a quote
Quotes don’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.
Around Walthamstow
We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around Walthamstow School for Girls, Greenleaf Primary School and Church of St Michael and All Angels and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include Mirth pub (within half a mile east), Aveling Park School (0.7 miles north) and Lloyd Park (within half a mile north). There’s a railway station in Walthamstow itself: Walthamstow Central station. A little further out are 17 & Central (within half a mile south) and Walthamstow Pump House Museum (0.8 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Hollow Pond and Ainslie Wood.
Air conditioning around E17
From Walthamstow, Leyton and Bakers Arms outwards, E17 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote.
E17 is part of a working area that runs from Greater London to the Sussex coast and out to Oxfordshire and Essex. You reach the same people wherever you are in it.
Walthamstow: If you work from home near Walthamstow Central station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. Older streets near Church of St Michael and All Angels may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.
What you can do yourself, and what needs us
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and phone us on 07833 053749 or email us.
Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
What we are called out for in E17
Most overheating comes from heat gained through the day. Sun through large windows, roof lights and glazed doors is the biggest source in many rooms, and the heat lingers long after the sun has moved round.
What we are most often called about:
- Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
- A loft conversion that is too warm to use
- An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
- Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient
What air conditioning can’t fix
Not every problem is solved by air conditioning, and we will tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:
- Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
System by system
Multi-split systems
A multi-split runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit. It saves wall space outside and suits homes where several rooms need cooling and each indoor unit has its own controls.
Wall-mounted split systems
For one room, a wall-mounted split is often the simplest answer. One unit inside, one outside, connected by pipework, a cable and a drain, routed as agreed on the survey.
Common questions in E17
Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?
The right one depends on how many rooms you want to cool, how much space there is outside and how visible you want the indoor units to be. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It can, for some brands. Send us the make and model and we will tell you what the manufacturer expects and stick to the interval they set.
How long will the installation take?
Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access and the quote says how long to expect.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We are happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Can air conditioning heat my home as well?
Typically, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. If you want it to replace your main heating, ask about air-to-air heat pumps and the conditions for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.
How do I know what size unit to get?
It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it and the survey covers each of them.
