Air conditioning in E18

Air conditioning across E18: what to expect

Any installation we do in E18 follows the same process as everywhere else we work: a site survey, or photos for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. The work covers ceiling cassettes, wall-mounted split systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are uncertainty over the right type and size of system and expensive direct electric heating.

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we have done.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

What you will pay

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

How to get a quote

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Near you in South Woodford

Around South Woodford, our work takes us to homes and businesses near Holy Trinity, The Highams Park and The George Inn. Other local landmarks include Oakdale Infants' School (within half a mile east), Woodbridge High School (0.7 miles north-east) and Forest School (0.9 miles south-west). For rail, the closest station is Wood Street station, roughly 1.3 miles west of the centre. A little further out are 17 & Central (2.2 miles west) and Walthamstow Pump House Museum (2.8 miles south-west). The countryside around South Woodford includes Pole Hill and Hollow Pond.

Where we install in E18

From Woodford, Wanstead and South Woodford outwards, E18 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.

An F-Gas certified company does the refrigerant side, and the electrics come under our NICEIC approval, in E18 as everywhere else.

South Woodford: Living close to Holy Trinity? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. Valentines Mansion (roughly 2.3 miles south-east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.

When something else is needed

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)

What we’re called out for in E18

Commercial spaces gain heat from people, equipment, lighting and glazing. Keeping staff and customers comfortable is normally what prompts the call, along with keeping equipment rooms at a steady temperature.

Reasons to give us a call include:

  • An office, shop or restaurant that is uncomfortable for staff and customers
  • Expensive direct electric heating
  • Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
  • An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life

Managing agents and facilities teams in E18

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

For anyone managing more than one building, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Every address has its own paperwork, so the files stay tidy.

What happens if it’s left?

Planning ahead beats a rushed decision in a heatwave. When people buy in a hurry, the unit is often the wrong size or badly placed, which is costly to undo. A survey now gives time to choose properly.

FAQs for E18

How do you size the system?

It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count, and we take them all into account on the survey.

Is E18 in your area?

Yes. We work in E18 and the rest of Greater London, as part of our area across London and the South East. For a fixed-price quote, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

How does the warranty work?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.

Which type of system should I choose?

There’s no single best type. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
