How air conditioning works in IG1

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi are among the brands we fit. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons for it, and the manufacturer’s warranty terms are set out on your quote. The work covers VRF systems, ceiling cassettes and wall-mounted split systems, and common reasons people get in touch are a home office that warms up with screens and equipment and too many options and no clear advice.

Think of the visit in three stages: diagnose, treat and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then the work itself, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
  4. Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Pricing in IG1

No two properties are the same, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The system, the access, the pipe routes and the parts involved all make a difference.

How to get a quote

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Air conditioning across IG1

In IG1, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.

We reply to enquiries from IG1 the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7.

Ilford: About 0.9 miles north-west stands Valentines Mansion. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. If your home is in one of the older streets near St Alban's Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

What air conditioning can’t fix

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)
  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are usually the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

Why act early?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
  • Who does the electrical work, and whether they can certify it
  • Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved

Rented and managed buildings

Whether it’s one property or many, the approach is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We can quote either party, and the paperwork can go to both.

Common questions in IG1

How long will the installation take?

It takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. The survey tells us how long your installation will need so there are no surprises.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.

Does servicing affect my warranty?

For some brands, yes. Send us the make and model and we will tell you what the manufacturer expects and stick to the interval they set.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we’ll advise on what to do next.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

We agree it with you on the survey. It needs space around it to breathe and room for an engineer to service it, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We’ll tell you what to check before we fit it.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
