Air conditioning in IG3: how it works
Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be, and we explain the options on the survey. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, ceiling cassettes and ducted systems, and people most often call us about an old system that needs replacing and a portable unit with a hose out of the window.
Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. All told, the work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- You send pictures, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
- Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
- We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
- Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
- It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.
How we quote
One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. You will have a fixed price before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Getting a quote
To help us quote: the address and the type of property, a few pictures, the brand and model of anything already fitted and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Then phone 07833 053749 or drop us a line.
Near you in Seven Kings
In Seven Kings, that means homes and buildings near Downshall Primary School, Palmer Catholic Academy and South Park, among other places. There’s a railway station in Seven Kings itself: Seven Kings station. Other landmarks nearby include The Brewery (3.6 miles east) and Redbridge Museum (1.2 miles south-west). The countryside around Seven Kings includes Hainault Lodge and Hollow Pond.
Air conditioning across IG3: local notes
From Ilford, Loxford and Newbury Park outwards, IG3 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote.
An F-Gas certified company does the refrigerant side, and the electrics come under our NICEIC approval.
Seven Kings: With historic houses such as Valentines Mansion about 1.4 miles west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules. Around St John the Evangelist, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install.
Different systems, different jobs
Pipework and condensate drains
Cooling produces water as the air is dried, which the condensate drain takes away. Where it can’t fall naturally to a drain, a condensate pump lifts it, and we plan that on the survey.
Electrical supply
We check the consumer unit on the survey, so the quote covers any electrical work needed. An older board may need extra work, and we explain why if so.
Owner checks or an engineer?
Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo of the display helps even more.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
Leave it or put it right?
Where the outdoor unit goes matters to you and to the neighbours. Placing it well keeps noise away from bedrooms and boundaries and makes servicing easier, and it can make a difference to planning. It’s agreed on the survey, not on the day.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether the electrical work is done by a registered contractor, such as NICEIC approved
- Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
- Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved
- Whether anyone has checked the property or the system first
What affects the quote in IG3
The survey or diagnosis tells us what the work involves. We look at:
- The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
- The pipe route between the units
- One-off work versus a regular service cycle
- The number of rooms, units or zones
Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.
What to send for a quote
Good pictures often save a visit. Try to include:
- Your consumer unit or fuse board
- The make and model of the system, from the label
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
To get a fixed-price quote, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with the address and a few details about the rooms or units involved. Photos help a lot. We reply to enquiries the same working day.
IG3 questions
How long will the installation take?
It takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. The survey tells us how long your installation will need so there are no surprises.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.
Can air conditioning heat my home as well?
In most cases, yes: modern splits are typically heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
What size air conditioning unit do I need?
Sizing is done on the survey, room by room. Too small, and it runs flat out; too big, and it switches on and off and wastes energy, so we explain why we’ve chosen a particular output.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
How quickly will you reply?
We reply to enquiries the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.
