Air conditioning in Ilford

Single-room systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, two rooms on a multi-split £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Those ranges include supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, with commercial and VRF systems priced after a survey. Looking for air con installers near Ilford? AirCon Doctor works across London and the South East from East Grinstead, with a fixed-price quote before any work starts.

In Ilford, as across London, the rooms that get hottest are typically under the roof or behind large sunny windows. Many people start with one wall-mounted unit in the room that suffers most, and a multi-split can cover more rooms from one outdoor unit where space outside is short.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We’ll tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Leave it or put it right?

The outdoor unit’s position is worth getting right first time. Placing it well keeps noise away from bedrooms and boundaries and makes servicing easier, and it can make a difference to planning. It’s agreed on the survey, not on the day. Planning ahead in Ilford means you choose the date, not the weather.

Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

System by system

Wall-mounted split systems

A wall-mounted split is the most common choice for a single room. One unit inside, one outside, connected by pipework, a cable and a drain, with the route agreed on the survey.

Offices, shops and commercial rooms

Systems over 12 kW of effective rated output bring extra duties for the building, including a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange the inspection and get the system ready for it.

The process

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and we take it from there. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you. Parking bays, permits and roof or balcony access are the first things we ask about in Ilford.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process

How to get a quote

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Questions from Ilford

Is air conditioning in Ilford permitted development?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Historic England lists about 9 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Ilford. A system that heats as well as cools may not need an application on a house, provided it stays within the permitted development limits. Cooling-only units get no such allowance, and listed buildings and road-facing positions in conservation areas need more care. We speak to Redbridge council, which is usually the planning authority for Ilford when it matters.

Is Ilford in your area for air conditioning?

Yes. Ilford is one of the places we cover. Tell us a little about the job and we’ll take it from there.

Do you work on all makes?

We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.

Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

Most of the time, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Under Part P, a new circuit has to be notified unless a registered competent person does it, and as NICEIC approved contractors we install and certify it as part of the job.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

Homes in Ilford and air conditioning

About 58% of homes in and around Ilford were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records, and the 2021 Census found about 46% of households live in flats. Older homes often have solid walls, which take longer to core drill, so we plan pipe routes carefully and keep them as discreet as we can. In flats, the lease and the freeholder normally decide where an outdoor unit can go, and the permitted development rules for flats are tighter. For a London home, we plan the outdoor unit position, the pipe route and any approvals before the day.

If your home is in one of the older streets near St Alban's Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. Valentines Mansion, about 0.9 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

For landlords and property managers

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
