Air conditioning in RM10: how it works
We install leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons for it, along with the manufacturer’s warranty terms on your quote. Typical jobs include a study or office that overheats during the day and fans and portables that don’t keep up, on air-to-air heat pumps, wall-mounted split systems and VRF systems.
Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we show you what we’ve done and answer any questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
- Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.
What affects the price in RM10
Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.
Why people in RM10 choose us
- We reply to enquiries the same working day
- Warranty terms set out brand by brand
- Diagnosis first, then a fixed price
- An F-Gas certified company, as the law requires
Getting a quote
Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.
Near you in Dagenham
Around Dagenham, our work takes us to homes and businesses near Village Infants' School, St. Peter and St. Paul and Dagenham Park Community School and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include Cross Keys pub (within half a mile south-east) and Beam Valley Country Park (0.8 miles east). For rail, the closest station is Dagenham Dock station, about 1.2 miles south-west. Other landmarks nearby include Rush Green Hospital (1.5 miles north-east) and The Brewery (2.5 miles north). For a walk, there’s Dagenham Village Churchyard.
Where we install in RM10
In RM10, we install in places such as Dagenham, Becontree and South Hornchurch and well beyond. We cover every place we list for RM10, 7 in all.
RM10 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Every job starts with a site survey or photos, then a fixed-price quote.
Dagenham: Living close to St. Peter and St. Paul? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. With historic houses such as Rainham Hall about 2 miles south-east, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.
Aftercare tips
So the system stays in good health:
- Keep the room closed while it runs
- Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
- Book an annual service
- Report drips, noises or error codes straight away
The work area is left tidy: sheets removed, packaging cleared up and pipe holes sealed. Pipework outside is covered in trunking or insulated and neatly fixed as agreed on the survey.
Keep the outdoor unit clear. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, which makes the whole system less efficient.
Why it fails
Everything that uses electricity in a room ends up as heat. A small office or a busy room can warm up fast with equipment and people in it, even on a mild day.
If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
- Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
- An office, shop or restaurant that is uncomfortable for staff and customers
Safe owner checks
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.
Keep a note of anything odd: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
Rented and managed buildings
The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.
Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.
RM10: your questions answered
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Which type of air conditioning is best?
Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.
Will I need planning permission?
That depends on what’s being fitted and where. Heat pumps on houses in England can be permitted development when they meet set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, but a cooling-only unit isn’t covered, so check with the council. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats have extra limits. This is general information, not legal advice.
How do you size the system?
Sizing is done on the survey, room by room. Too small, and it runs flat out; too big, and it switches on and off and wastes energy, so we explain why we’ve chosen a particular output.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes, always. New installations come with commissioning details, F-Gas records and warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.
