About air conditioning in IG6
Air conditioning is not only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust makes the same point: an air-to-air heat pump is what many people simply call air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Common call-outs are for expensive direct electric heating and rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in, across ceiling cassettes, multi-split systems and air-to-air heat pumps.
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. On site, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- First comes a site survey, or photos and measurements for a straightforward job.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.
What you will pay
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is looked at first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Air conditioning around IG6
From Chigwell, Newbury Park and Fairlop outwards, IG6 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
Our area stretches from Greater London through Surrey, Kent and Sussex to Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and IG6 sits within it. You reach the same people wherever you are in it.
Fairlop: About 2.1 miles south stands Valentines Mansion. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. Around St Francis of Assisi, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install.
When something else is needed
Not every problem is solved by air conditioning, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
Leave it or put it right?
Fans and portables move warm air around rather than removing it. A fixed system removes the heat to the outside, runs more quietly in the room and can usually heat as well, so it earns its keep all year.
Questions to ask before you book
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
- Whether the electrical work is done by a registered contractor, such as NICEIC approved
- Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
- If the quote is based on a survey, pictures or a diagnosis
What owners can safely do
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
Some faults have simple causes you can check first: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and call 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.
Different systems, different jobs
Electrical supply
We check the consumer unit on the survey, so any extra electrical work is on the quote rather than a surprise on the day. Older boards sometimes need more work to take a new circuit and we will tell you if yours does.
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Systems over 12 kW of effective rated output bring extra duties for the building, such as a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange the inspection and get the system ready for it.
Questions from IG6
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what’s needed, where things go and what access we need and the fixed price is built on it.
Will I need planning permission?
Not always. On a house, air-to-water heat pumps and, since 2025, air-to-air systems that heat as well as cool can be permitted development if they meet the conditions. Permission is more likely to come up for cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing positions in conservation areas and the survey picks it up. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?
Often, yes, but there are extra steps. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls and the lease will say. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Which type of air conditioning is best?
Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling and the survey confirms what’s possible.
What does it cost to install air conditioning?
Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork and is fixed after a survey or from pictures.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.
