Air conditioning in West Hackney

Air conditioning in West Hackney, done properly

We approach an installation much as a doctor approaches a patient: survey first, install second, commission and hand over last. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. When someone in West Hackney asks us for air con, the first questions are typically price and who will fit it. Our typical prices are on the site, and every install is done by F-Gas qualified engineers.

London homes in West Hackney can be short of outside space, which means a rear wall bracket, a flat roof or a balcony is often the best spot for the outdoor unit. Neighbours’ windows and noise matter as much as appearance when we choose the position, and the pipe run is planned to be short, neat and out of the way.

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

What an install looks like in West Hackney

About 49% of homes in and around West Hackney were built before 1919, according to VOA council tax data, and the 2021 Census found about 79% of households live in flats. Older properties often mean solid walls and period details, so pipe runs are planned to stay neat and out of sight. For a flat, we look at balconies, flat roofs and rear walls for the outdoor unit, and the lease often needs checking first. In London, outdoor unit positions, building rules and access tend to need more planning than the install itself.

About 1.2 miles south-east stands Sutton House. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. If you work from home near Rectory Road station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.

West Hackney questions

Can you fit air conditioning in a London flat in West Hackney?

Typically, yes, though leaseholders normally need the freeholder’s agreement. We look at where the outdoor unit could go, such as a balcony, flat roof or rear wall, and write it up for the freeholder or agent.

Can you do air conditioning in West Hackney?

Yes, West Hackney is within the area we cover. Just ring us on 07833 053749 or email us with a few details.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.

How much is air conditioning for one room?

Typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT for a single-room split, depending on the room, the access and the pipe route. Long pipe runs, difficult access, a new circuit and premium indoor units push the price up, and commercial systems are priced after a survey.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

Does air conditioning work as heating?

Typically, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. If you want it to replace your main heating, ask about air-to-air heat pumps and the conditions for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.

How soon will you get back to me?

You’ll hear from us the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.

What air conditioning cannot fix

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
  • Central heating repairs

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send an email and we’ll say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Multi-split systems
  • Ducted systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • VRF systems

What the work involves, system by system

Multi-split systems

A multi-split runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit. It’s a neat answer when space outside is limited and several rooms need it and each indoor unit has its own controls.

Electrical supply

A dedicated circuit is normally needed. As NICEIC approved contractors, we install it and issue the certificate and that covers the Part P side.

After we have gone

Looking after it is simple, and it helps at the next service:

  • Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together
  • Have the system serviced once a year
  • Keep the room closed while it runs

An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make regular servicing a condition of their warranty. We can remind you when it’s due, so it does not get forgotten.

Regular filter cleaning is the simplest thing you can do. Blocked filters cut airflow and make the system work harder, so it uses less electricity for the same comfort.

How it works

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we have done. If your building in West Hackney has a managing agent, a concierge or sign-in rules, mention them when you book.

  1. We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
  5. Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
