Air source heat pumps in West End

About our air source heat pumps in West End

We begin with a room-by-room heat loss survey. It shows how much heat each room needs on a cold day, so the heat pump and the radiators or indoor units can be sized properly. Sizing by rule of thumb is not good enough. The work covers hot water cylinders, air-to-water heat pumps and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, and people most often call us about working out where a cylinder could go and working out whether radiators need upsizing.

Older and listed homes in villages like West End need extra care, and permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.

Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

What air conditioning won’t do

We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Planning decisions, which rest with the council
  • A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules
  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send an email and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Radiator systems
  • Underfloor heating
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Air-to-air heat pumps

Air-to-water heat pumps

An air-to-water heat pump heats water for your radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water cylinder. It replaces the boiler as the main heat source and we install it to MCS standards.

What we do, step by step

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. For a place like West End, the timing is set with you and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you’re eligible for and the VAT explained.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time

FAQs for West End

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in West End?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The West End Conservation Area takes in the middle of West End. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for West End, typically Elmbridge council) first.

Do you cover smaller places like West End?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

What does an air-to-water heat pump cost?

£8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes) for air-to-water, before the grant. The final price depends on the heat loss survey, the radiators and the cylinder, and you get a fixed-price quote.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes, on every job. New installations come with commissioning details, F-Gas records and warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.

Which brands do you work with?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and explain why.

Air source heat pumps in West End: the local picture

The last census (2021) found about 65% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

With The Homewood about 1 mile south-west, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump. Period properties close to St George's can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

West End is about 1 mile south-west of Esher, in Surrey. We cover West End for air source heat pumps, along with the rest of Surrey. Across Surrey, we cover 395 places, and West End is one of them. We also work in Croydon, around 12 miles away.

Not far from West End, a recent job of ours was on High Street, Esher (KT10), about 1 mile north-east: installing a Daikin VRF system serving the dining room, private dining room and bar area: five indoor units in total.

All of KT10 and KT12 is covered, from busy streets to back roads. You will find West End on the A244 and A307, which makes it straightforward for our engineers to reach for surveys and visits. Further out, we also cover Guildford (12 miles south-west), Woking (9 miles west), Camberley (15 miles west) and Epsom (5 miles east).

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Some faults have simple causes you can check first: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and give us a ring on 07833 053749 or send an email.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
