How air source heat pumps works in Essex

Air-to-water heat pumps heat your hot water through a cylinder. Homes with a combi boiler may not have a cylinder, so finding space for one is part of the survey. Air-to-air systems do not heat hot water, so you’ll need another way to do that. Common call-outs are for checking emitters for a heat pump and a boiler that’s getting old, across homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, hot water cylinders and air-to-water heat pumps.

There’s very little for you to do on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and the rest is down to us. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you.

  1. You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
  3. We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
  4. We install the heat pump and connect it up.
  5. We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.

What affects the price in Essex

Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Call for a fixed-price quote and we will explain each part.

How to get a quote

Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we’ve looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Heat pumps across Essex

From Colchester, Chelmsford and Basildon outwards, every heat pump we fit in Essex starts with a heat loss calculation. We are MCS certified and apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for you.

Essex is part of a working area that runs from Greater London to the Sussex coast and out to Oxfordshire and Essex. One phone number covers all of it. In the coastal parts of Essex, outdoor units benefit from a sheltered position and regular servicing.

Colchester: For a home near Colchester Town station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better. Period properties close to Church of St Peter can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

Looking after your system

Aftercare is straightforward, and it helps at the next service:

  • Keep up with insulation and draught-proofing
  • Check eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme early
  • Keep the outdoor unit clear all year
  • Let the heat pump run steadily, as set up at handover

Equipment warranties come from the manufacturer. We go through the conditions with you, including any servicing they ask for.

A well-insulated home helps a heat pump, as lower heat loss means the system has less to do.

Why act early?

For eligible off-gas homes on oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is on offer until March 2027. For homes that qualify, that’s a reason to look into it now.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Exactly what the price includes, from supply and fitting to commissioning
  • What paperwork you will receive afterwards
  • Whether the quote is a fixed price
  • What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day

What air source heat pumps cannot fix

Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Planning decisions, which rest with the council

Managing agents and facilities teams in Essex

If you look after several properties, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Every address has its own paperwork, so each one has its own history.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the paperwork can go to both.

Common questions in Essex

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?

Under the Planning Portal rules, a heat pump on a house can often be permitted development. Listed buildings are excluded, and listed building consent is separate, so we check for your property.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the job needs and how to do it, and the quote is based on that.

Are you F-Gas certified?

We’re an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.

Is the equipment covered by a warranty?

The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some brands make regular servicing a condition, so keep your service records.

Is Essex in your area?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, Essex included.
