Air conditioning in CM24: how it works

A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, while a two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Those ranges include supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, with commercial and VRF systems priced after a survey. The work covers multi-split systems, VRF systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer and a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer.

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. The visit takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

How we quote

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you are unsure, phone 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. Once we’ve looked at the job, from pictures or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To start, phone 07833 053749.

Stansted Mountfitchet: If you work from home near Stansted Mountfitchet station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. Older streets near Church of St John the Evangelist may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.

Leave it or put it right?

There’s a tax point for homes: HMRC zero-rates the installation of energy-saving materials in homes until 31 March 2027, after which the rate becomes 5%. Whether a particular system qualifies depends on the facts and we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.

Comparing quotes

  • Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
  • If the quote is based on a survey, pictures or a diagnosis
  • Exactly what the price includes, from supply and fitting to commissioning
  • Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it

Before you call an engineer

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

When it’s something else

We will not sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)
  • A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)

Keeping the system healthy

After the visit, a few habits help:

  • Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
  • Avoid setting it far colder than you need
  • Have the system serviced once a year
  • Tell us if the unit starts to leak, rattle or show a code

The filters are the one part you’ll look after yourself, so we show you how. Clean them every few weeks when the system is in heavy use, following the manual, and keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and clutter.

Regular filter cleaning is the simplest thing you can do. Clean filters keep the air moving and help the system work as designed, which costs you more to run.

CM24 questions

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, we work the same way: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Every job is looked at first, on a survey, or from your pictures and details where the job is simple. A fixed-price quote follows.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Most of the time, yes: modern splits are typically heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.

Do you work in CM24?

Yes. CM24 is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover. Our base is in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, any time. If something urgent happens, like water coming from a unit or a critical room overheating, call our 24/7 line and we’ll agree what happens next.
