Pricing air source heat pumps in Stanway
Typical ranges are on our prices page, and your quote is built on your job. The quote depends on:
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
- How easy the units are to reach
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will go through it with you.
What we need to know
To help us quote quickly, send us:
- A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light
- The make and model of the system, from the label
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
To get a fixed-price quote, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details about the rooms or units involved. Photos help a lot. We reply to enquiries the same working day.
Air source heat pumps in Stanway, done properly
Many air source heat pumps can be installed as permitted development in England, without a planning application. Conditions include a maximum outdoor unit size of 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), use for more than cooling alone and a site outside the curtilage of a listed building. We check the rules for your property as part of the survey. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, underfloor heating and radiator systems, and the jobs we see most are not knowing whether a grant applies and moving away from fossil-fuel heating.
In a place like Stanway, some homes are listed, and permitted development does not cover listed buildings, so we check consent first.
Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. Where yours does, a regular service with us keeps that side in order, and every service is written up.

Homes in Stanway and heat pumps
About 73% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
Layer Marney Tower, roughly 4.2 miles south, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings. Older homes near Parish Church of St Albright may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.
Stanway is about 2 miles west of Camulodunum, in Essex. We cover Stanway for air source heat pumps and across the rest of Essex. Our list for Essex has 644 entries, and Stanway is one. For properties nearby, see our London page (47 miles or so).
Our engineers cover all of the CO3 and CO6 postcode area. From Church Lane, Red Panda Road and Turkey Cock Lane to the smaller roads in between, the whole area is covered. Places around Stanway that are also on our list: Beacon End (1 mile east), Copford Green (1 mile south-west), Eight Ash Green (1 mile north), Heckfordbridge (2 miles south) and Lexden (2 miles east). Further out, we also cover Colchester (4 miles east), Braintree (11 miles west), Clacton-on-Sea (15 miles east) and Maldon (12 miles south-west).
Near you in Stanway
Typical jobs here are in properties near White Hart Toby Carvery pub and The Stanway School and the streets around them. Stanway’s nearest station is Marks Tey station, roughly 1.5 miles west. Nearby you will also find Social History Museum (3.5 miles east) and Birch Castle (2.6 miles south). Not far away are Iron Latch.
Why deal with it now?
Replacing a boiler in a hurry when it breaks leaves little time to consider a heat pump. Surveying and designing in advance means the system is sized right and any grant is applied for while the old heating still works. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.
What you pay depends on the system and the number of rooms or units, the access and the parts and time the job needs. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Looking after your system
After the visit, a few habits help:
- Use the settings explained at handover
- Leave space around the outdoor unit
- Know the servicing conditions in your warranty
The warranty on the heat pump is the manufacturer’s, on its own terms. We explain the terms for your brand, including any servicing conditions.
A well-insulated home helps a heat pump, as lower heat loss means the system has less to do.
Your questions about air source heat pumps in Stanway
Do you cover smaller places like Stanway?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Is a heat pump in Stanway permitted development?
The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. Historic England lists about 17 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Stanway. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for Stanway, usually Colchester council) first.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, we work the same way: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. You get a written record of each visit, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.
Can I get a grant for an air-to-air heat pump?
There is a £2,500 grant for air-to-air, but only under strict conditions. It has to replace the fossil-fuel heating, meet the full heating demand, be fitted by an MCS certified installer, and be in a home.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
Which accreditations do you hold?
We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We’re members of Checkatrade too.
The process
The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby, and we ask before moving anything. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. The work on site takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system, and we tidy up before we leave. If a lane or gateway near Stanway is tight for a van, let us know and we will plan for it.
- First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
- A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
- You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
- We install the heat pump and connect it up.
- After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.
Before we arrive
- Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
