About our air source heat pumps in Springfield
A £2,500 grant is available for some air-to-air heat pumps, with conditions. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. We’re often asked to deal with choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air and checking emitters for a heat pump, on homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, hot water cylinders and underfloor heating.
If your home near Springfield has no mains gas, the grant can be bigger. Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas can get an extra £1,500 on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027, for an air source or ground source heat pump.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, as a manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

Heat pumps in Springfield: local notes
Cuton Hall, listed at grade II, is one of roughly 8 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Springfield’s centre. Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with the local planning authority (usually Chelmsford council) before the heat pump design is finished. About 43% of homes in and around Springfield date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and Census 2021 figures found about 63% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Detached and semi-detached houses usually have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
Danbury Place, roughly 2.9 miles south-east, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings. Live in one of the older houses around St Augustine of Canterbury North Springfield? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

The process
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. On site, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Let us know how to reach the outside wall or outdoor unit at your property near Springfield.
- It begins with your house and the heating it relies on now.
- Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
- From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Getting ready for the visit
- Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Keep pets and children away from the work area

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, with the rate that applies to your job. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, ring 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants towards heat pumps: £7,500 for air-to-water and ground source, and £2,500 for air-to-air in limited cases. The installer applies.
Heat loss surveys
The survey works out the heat needed room by room. Everything else is sized from it.

Springfield questions
Will you come out to Springfield?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Springfield?
Springfield is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we’ll talk you through the next steps.
Are you F-Gas certified?
As the law requires for refrigerant work, we are an F-Gas certified company. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. That is not optional: it’s required by law, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Will my radiators work with a heat pump?
We find out during the survey. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays, and any that need upsizing are set out in the quote.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
Owner checks or an engineer?
On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
A customer’s words
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
