How it works
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Getting to the outside of the property matters more than parking in a place like Tiptree.
- First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you’re hoping for.
- On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
- We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
- Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets and children away from the work area
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area

How we handle air source heat pumps in Tiptree
We install air source heat pumps in Tiptree and across Essex, and we’re MCS certified. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We will explain which type fits your home and why. If you’re dealing with ageing boilers that will need replacing and checking emitters for a heat pump, we can help.
Older homes around Tiptree can be draughty or have solid walls, so a proper heat loss calculation matters. Sometimes insulation first is the better investment.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. File it with the manual so it’s to hand next time.

Before you call an engineer
Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.
Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.
System by system
Air-to-air heat pumps
The £2,500 grant for air-to-air applies only when the system replaces the fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s demand. It also has to be fitted by an MCS certified installer, in a home.
VAT on heat pumps
Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5%, under HMRC Notice 708/6. Businesses pay the standard rate.
Tiptree questions
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Tiptree?
Tiptree is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. The amount depends on the type of heat pump, and the survey confirms which applies. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Is a heat pump in Tiptree permitted development?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Historic England lists about 11 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Tiptree. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights don’t reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the planning department at Colchester council, typically the authority for Tiptree.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so it’s worth checking. Keep every service record either way.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, we work the same way: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes. You get a written record of each visit, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That is a legal requirement, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.
Air source heat pumps in Tiptree: the local picture
About 42% of homes in and around Tiptree date from 1945 to 1972, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and about 79% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Historic houses such as Layer Marney Tower, about 2.1 miles east, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in. Live in one of the older houses around Church of St Luke? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

Looking after it afterwards
Looking after the system is mostly common sense. A few tips:
- Ask about the grant before you commit
- Clear leaves and debris from the outdoor unit
- Know the servicing conditions in your warranty
Where we applied for a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, we keep you informed through the process, as the installer applies for it.
Heat pumps prefer steady, low-temperature running, using the settings agreed at handover.
A customer’s words
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
