Our air conditioning service in CO1
Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Typical jobs include rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night and fans and portables that don’t keep up, on ceiling cassettes, VRF systems and multi-split systems.
Each visit runs to the same pattern: agree the plan on site, put the dust sheets down, do the work, test what we have done and talk you through it. The visit itself takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- First comes a site survey, or photos and measurements for a straightforward job.
- The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
- Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.
What you will pay
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is looked at first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.
Why book with us
- Electrical work covered by our NICEIC approval
- F-Gas company certification
- Diagnosis first, then a fixed price
- Warranty terms set out brand by brand

Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.
Landmarks near The Hythe
Typical jobs here are in properties near Kendall Church of England Primary School, Colchester Academy and The Rising Sun Public House, among other places. You will also find Salary Brook Local Nature Reserve (0.8 miles east), Donyland Lodge (1.5 miles south) and Church of St Leonard at the Hythe (within half a mile north-west). There’s a railway station in The Hythe itself: Hythe station. Other landmarks nearby include Colchester Castle (1.1 miles north-west) and Essex County Hospital (1.6 miles west). For a walk, there’s Cockaynes Wood.
Air conditioning across CO1
Across CO1, from Colchester, Camulodunum and Greenstead to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. We are F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps.
The Hythe: If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Leonard at the Hythe, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. If you work from home near Hythe station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.
Different systems, different jobs
Multi-split systems
A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. The pipe routes to each room make the biggest difference to the price.
Electrical supply
The fuse board is looked at during the survey, so any extra electrical work is on the quote rather than a surprise on the day. Older boards sometimes need more work to take a new circuit, and we explain why if so.
Why act early?
The outdoor unit’s position is worth getting right first time. A good position keeps noise down and leaves room for servicing, and it can make a difference to planning. We agree it with you on the survey.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether the quote shows VAT clearly
- Whether extra work needs your approval first
- Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications
- What the manufacturer’s warranty covers and for how long
Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in CO1
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- What kind of system it is
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
- What state the existing equipment is in
What you pay depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, the access and what the work involves. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.
Asking for a quote
To speed up the quote, please include:
- Any error code or flashing light on the display
- The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
- The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
Getting a quote is straightforward. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.
Owner checks or an engineer?
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
Write down what you notice: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
CO1: your questions answered
How soon will you get back to me?
On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
How do you size the system?
It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it and the survey covers each of them.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. You get a written record of every visit, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
It can, for some brands. Send us the make and model and we will tell you what the manufacturer expects and stick to the interval they set.
Which type of system should I choose?
It depends on the rooms and the building. A split suits one room, a multi-split several, a ducted system hides the unit, and a cassette spreads air across larger rooms. We recommend one on the survey and explain why.
Will I need planning permission?
Not always. On a house, air-to-water heat pumps and, since 2025, air-to-air systems that heat as well as cool can be permitted development if they meet the conditions. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it normally comes up, and we tell you at the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
