For landlords and property managers

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too in Roxwell and across Essex. Larger buildings can be done in stages to keep disruption down.

For an air-to-water heat pump, the price is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme can provide £7,500 towards an eligible air-to-water system in England and Wales, and as the installer we apply for it on your behalf. Eligibility depends on the property, so we confirm it before anything is agreed. If the problem is checking emitters for a heat pump and a boiler that’s getting old, we can help.

For a home around Roxwell that is off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump.

Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. File them with the system’s paperwork, as a manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

Air source heat pumps around Roxwell

Valuation Office Agency council tax records date about 60% of homes in the Roxwell area to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and Census 2021 figures found about 73% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.

Period properties close to Church of St Michael and All Angels can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first. With Hylands about 3.5 miles south-east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

How the visit works

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, and that takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. A few pictures help us make the most of a visit to Roxwell.

  1. You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
  3. We explain which type of heat pump suits the home and whether a grant could apply.
  4. The system is installed and connected to the controls.
  5. We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.

Common questions in Roxwell

Do you cover smaller places like Roxwell?

Yes. Roxwell is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.

Can I fit a heat pump in Roxwell without planning permission?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The Roxwell Conservation Area is close to the centre of Roxwell. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for Roxwell, usually Chelmsford council) first.

Why does F-Gas certification matter?

Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.

Which manufacturers do you install and repair?

The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.

How much time does a heat pump install need?

A typical installation takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short, and we explain it in advance.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.

What the work involves, system by system

Air-to-water heat pumps

Flow temperatures are lower than with a typical boiler, which is why radiator sizing is part of the survey.

Before you call an engineer

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

What a customer said

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
