Air source heat pumps for Hutton

Before you call an engineer

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

Air source heat pumps in Hutton

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Hutton and the rest of Essex. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We help you work out which suits your home. If the problem is working out where a cylinder could go and working out whether radiators need upsizing, we can help.

Older homes around Hutton can be draughty or have solid walls, so a proper heat loss calculation matters. Sometimes insulating first makes more sense.

Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. File them with the system’s paperwork, as a manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

After we have gone

Simple habits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Read the manufacturer’s warranty terms for your brand
  • Keep to regular servicing
  • Ask about the grant before you commit

Once commissioned, we register the installation with MCS and give you the certificate. Keep it with the manufacturer’s paperwork, as you may need it later.

Let the heat pump run steadily rather than switching it on and off as explained at handover.

What air conditioning won’t do

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades
  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
  • Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler

Not sure which it is? You can phone 07833 053749 and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Where we work

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Radiator systems
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Hutton

Can I fit a heat pump in Hutton without planning permission?

The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. Central Hutton is a short walk from the Hutton Village Conservation Area. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Hutton, typically Brentwood council).

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Hutton?

Hutton is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?

We find out during the survey. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays and any changes are in the quote.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

How do you keep the place clean during the work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.

How it works

Each visit runs to the same pattern: agree the plan on site, put the dust sheets down, carry out the job, check the system and explain it all to you. The visit itself takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Because we plan from pictures or a survey, a job in Hutton can typically be finished in one visit.

  1. First we talk through the property and the current system.
  2. Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
  3. From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
  4. Cost, grant and VAT appear on one fixed-price quote.
  5. Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them

VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. To get one, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
