About air conditioning in EN10
Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. Typical jobs include a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer and an old system that needs replacing, on ceiling cassettes, air-to-air heat pumps and wall-mounted split systems.
The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby and nothing is moved without asking you. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. It takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system, and we tidy up before we leave.
- We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.
What you’ll pay
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is looked at first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Air conditioning around EN10
Planning rules are the same across England, EN10 included: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.
We’re based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, EN10 included. Every job starts with a site survey or photos, then a fixed-price quote.
Broxbourne: Living close to Church of St Augustine? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. If you commute from Broxbourne station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed.
Let and managed properties
From a single flat to a whole estate, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.
Bigger systems bring extra duties: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.
How we price air conditioning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
- What we find on the survey or diagnosis
- Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
- Whether the existing supply is suitable
Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will go through it with you.
Before you get in touch
What to send for a quote:
- A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light
- The fuse board and where it is in the property
- The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
- A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
Getting a quote is straightforward. Call or email with a few details and we will come back to you the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.
Common problems we fix in EN10
Commercial spaces gain heat from people, equipment, lighting and glazing. Keeping staff and customers comfortable is usually what prompts the call, and some rooms need cooling for the equipment as much as the people.
Reasons to give us a call include:
- A business premises that overheats in summer
- Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
- An old system that needs replacing
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
What owners can safely do
Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
FAQs for EN10
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. That isn’t optional: it’s required by law, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Which type of air conditioning is best?
It depends on the rooms and the building. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. We recommend one on the survey and explain why.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
How does the warranty work?
Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That is the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Typically, yes. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.
