Air source heat pumps in Chatham Green, done properly
Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside, using electricity to drive the process. It works on the same principle as air conditioning, run the other way, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If you’re dealing with working out where a cylinder could go and a boiler that’s getting old, we can help.
If your home in or near Chatham Green is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. File it with the manual so it’s to hand next time.

Before you call an engineer
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
What a heat pump looks like in Chatham Green
About 49% of homes across Chatham Green and its surrounding area have been built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records, and about 72% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Lower heat loss in recent homes often means a smaller heat pump and fewer radiator changes. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
If your home is one of the older properties near Church of St John the Evangelist, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. Every heat pump design starts with a room-by-room heat loss calculation.

What we do, step by step
Each visit runs to the same pattern: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, do the work, check the system and talk you through it. On site, the work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Chatham Green easier.
- We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
- A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
- The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
- We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
- Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
- Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

What happens if it’s left?
A sudden boiler failure rarely leaves room to plan a heat pump properly. Planning ahead gives time for the heat loss survey, the design and the grant application while the old heating still works. A system that is left with a fault, or without a service, usually costs more to run.
Every job is different, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.
Why us?
- MCS certification for heat pump work
- Diagnosis first, then a fixed price

Questions from Chatham Green
Is Chatham Green within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Chatham Green?
It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Around 7 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Chatham Green. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the planning department at Chelmsford council, normally the authority for Chatham Green.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.
Does the grant cover air-to-air heat pumps?
A £2,500 grant is available in some cases. It won’t apply if the system is an add-on next to a boiler, and it must cover the whole heating demand.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
From one of our customers
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
