Heat pumps in Tarpots: local notes
The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures date about 63% of homes across Tarpots and its surrounding area to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and the 2021 Census found about 84% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. At about 28 miles from central London, Tarpots sits inside the area we cover across London and the South East.
If your home is one of the older properties near St George, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

About our air source heat pumps in Tarpots
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it does not apply to businesses. For air-to-air systems, we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice. Common call-outs are for ageing boilers that will need replacing and working out where a cylinder could go, across homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, underfloor heating and hot water cylinders.
Homes around Tarpots usually have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.
Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Do you need air source heat pumps in Tarpots?
An ageing boiler is often the moment people start thinking about a heat pump. Planning the change before the boiler fails gives you time to survey, design and apply for any grant instead of making a rushed decision when the heating stops.
If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Radiators that may be too small for a heat pump
- Questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
- Questions about where the outdoor unit can go
A heat loss calculation decides the size of heat pump your home needs.
What your quote should include
- Whether testing, commissioning and paperwork are included
- Whether they looked at the job before pricing it
- Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved

How the visit works
If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before work begins, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can normally work room by room or zone by zone. The work takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. For a village like Tarpots, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
- The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you are eligible for and the VAT explained.
- Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
- We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.
How to prepare
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
- Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
- Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, with the rate that applies to your job. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. For a fixed-price quote, phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.
Advice
What air conditioning will not do
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
- Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades
- Getting planning permission or listed building consent on your behalf
If in doubt, give us a ring on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we will say what we think before booking.

Tarpots: your questions answered
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Tarpots?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Tarpots, if they qualify. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Is Tarpots in your area for air source heat pumps?
Yes. Tarpots is one of the places we cover. Get in touch with the details and we reply the same working day.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer so it’s worth keeping the service records.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
Do you protect the property while you work?
We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards before we leave.
Do you work on all makes?
Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and explain why.
What you can do yourself, and what needs us
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
A customer’s words
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
