How air conditioning works in SS7
Across SS7, every installation follows the same steps: a site survey, or pictures for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. You know the price before any work starts and the paperwork is in your hands when we finish. We’re often asked to deal with rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night and expensive direct electric heating, on ducted systems, air-to-air heat pumps and ceiling cassettes.
We keep the work area tidy as we go, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
- You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
- The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
- Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
- We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.
Pricing in SS7
Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.
Why choose AirCon Doctor
- MCS certified heat pump installers
- We diagnose before we treat
- A fixed price before any work starts
- Emergency calls taken 24/7
Getting a quote
Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.

Air conditioning across SS7: local notes
Our air conditioning work across SS7 takes in places such as Rayleigh, Thundersley and Leigh-on-Sea and the smaller places around them. Every place on our SS7 list (7 in all) is covered.
SS7 is part of a working area that runs from Greater London to the Sussex coast and out to Oxfordshire and Essex. One phone number covers all of it. Near the coast in SS7, outdoor units last longer with shelter from sea wind and a yearly service.
Thundersley: Starting with one room is common, and the outdoor unit can be chosen with more rooms in mind. Living close to Church of St Peter? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.
How we price air conditioning
Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
- The condition of any existing system
- How many units are involved
- Whether the existing supply is suitable
Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we will price it together.
Helping us quote
You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- The rating plate or label on any existing unit
- Your consumer unit or fuse board
- Wide photos of the room or the existing unit

Common problems we fix in SS7
Not everyone is after cooling. Direct electric heaters convert electricity into heat one for one, while an air-to-air heat pump moves heat from outside, which means more heat out than electricity in. Most modern split systems work this way.
Reasons to give us a call include:
- Too many options and no clear advice
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
- A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
- A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement
What you can do yourself, and what needs us
On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are typically the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and call us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.
Looking after it afterwards
Looking after it is simple, and it helps at the next service:
- Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
- Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
- Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together
- Book an annual service
You get the paperwork that matters: the commissioning details, the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information. Keep them with the manual, because the manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.
Clean the filters regularly, not just at the service. Blocked filters cut airflow and make the system work harder, so it uses less electricity for the same comfort.
SS7: your questions answered
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Most systems need their own supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and we are NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.
What warranty do I get?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. It’s worth checking before booking, and we are happy to show ours.
Which type of air conditioning is best?
The right one depends on how many rooms you want to cool, how much space there is outside and how visible you want the indoor units to be. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.
Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?
Not always. Permitted development can cover a heat pump on a house, including an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools since 2025, provided the conditions are met. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it normally comes up and the survey picks it up. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
