Air conditioning in SS4

How air conditioning works in SS4

Any installation we do in SS4 follows the same process as everywhere else we work: a site survey, or pictures for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. We are often asked to deal with a home office that warms up with screens and equipment and a room that’s unbearable on warm days, on multi-split systems, wall-mounted split systems and ceiling cassettes.

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.

What you will pay

One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before we start, with VAT shown clearly.

The closest station to Rochford is Rochford station, roughly 0.5 miles south-east of the centre. Where we install in SS4

In SS4, we install in places such as Rochford, Ashingdon and Canewdon and well beyond. Every place on our SS4 list (10 in all) is covered.

Across London and the South East, we reply to enquiries the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7.

Rochford: Southchurch Hall, about 3.7 miles south, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. If you commute from Rochford station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.

Before you call an engineer

Owner care supports servicing; it doesn’t replace it. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and phone 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

Why act early?

Refrigerant rules have changed what new systems use. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant cannot use F gases with a GWP above 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088.

What your quote should include

  • The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
  • Whether extra work needs your approval first
  • Whether the quote is a fixed price
  • Proof of F-Gas company certification

Why it fails

Rooms in the roof are often the hardest to keep cool. The roof takes the full force of the sun, and warm air rises from the floors below, so a bedroom or office under the roof can stay warm well into the night.

Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
  • A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement
  • Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
  • Too many options and no clear advice

Looking after your system

To keep the system working properly:

  • Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
  • Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together
  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Book an annual service

The handover includes the records you need: F-Gas records, commissioning details and the manufacturer’s warranty terms. File them together, because the manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

Give the outdoor unit room to breathe. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

FAQs for SS4

Is the equipment covered by a warranty?

It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.

Does air conditioning work as heating?

In most cases, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. If you want it to replace your main heating, ask about air-to-air heat pumps and the conditions for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.

How quickly will you reply?

You’ll hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?

In most cases. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.

Do you work in SS4?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, SS4 included.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.
